SURPRISING STUFF
Three entities decided to make an attempt to meet the city’s bid to form and then run a trolley service for visitors to use during the busy summer months.
One company won out. The trolleys, however, will not be trolleys at all. Those trolleys, as visitors, residents, and businesses all witness, are wonderful vehicles where the riders are exposed to the passing wind, have tons of outward exposure to the view, and even the weather. Those trolleys mentioned here, already in existence for many years, are the Grand Geneva Trolleys.
The company that won the bid, entailing details about what has not been announced yet, has furnished a major detail. There will be no trolleys. There will be enclosed, air-conditioned, and very yellow school buses. Yellow for safety, of course, unless the reader here chooses to think differently. That the Lake Geneva City Council chose to veer away from ambiance, freedom, and beauty is not surprising. That price will be paid because people who like ambiance and not just air-conditioned comfort will find another way into the heart of the city.
On the topic of yellow buses…
School buses have no seat belts, as some of the injuries to the bus company’s short stopping’ awful driving proved weeks ago. That driver is still driving, although supposedly not in Lake Geneva anymore, not that the school district is forthcoming about it in any way. The video, pulled by the police, had no audio. Really! The video cameras are also supposedly owned by the district, yet those buses are used in several other communities. Is Lake Geneva subsidizing other communities… all in the name of safety?
If that’s the case, then why wasn’t the driver fired instead of being handed a simple ‘disturbing the peace’ citation? That woman most certainly disturbed the peace of about twenty-five children, and that the district treated this without sympathy or care is shocking.
