MEA CULPA, MEA MAXIMA CULPA

The results of the election, the midterms as they are called, are in, and the changes that will be forthcoming will be both as welcome to many of us out here as they will be stunningly hurtful to so many of the Trump faithful. This man grew into a role that he thought would allow him to do and be whatever he wanted and was so wrong in both that long-term conclusion and the result for him and his many totally incompetent minions and supporting actors. Americans do not like having their incomes reduced in any form, whether that is done by allowing vastly profitable oil companies when the U.S. is the single largest producer of oil, or by tariffs meant to hurt other countries by hurting the consumers at home, as the excess charges are summarily passed right on to the American consumers who have no choice but what to pay.

That the President and his family have been stealing money from these same chastised and pained consumers of this country is small change, but not so small as to be ignored. It’s just frosting on the cake of this awful administration. The president, who went from being bankrupt (several times) over losses in his gambling, air taxi, and phony college schemes, is indeed small change when compared to the carnage of trillions of lost dollars being spent on a silly war over almost nothing, the necessity of the war with Iran being changed monthly back and forth as U.S. dollars are drained through the Department of Defense (War!). Vietnam was fought over weaponry, but nobody pays attention to that part of the story. Those who build the weapons of war, across almost all of the ‘Red’ states, needed to get rid of old Cold War weaponry and build new weapons, more expensive and now (proven) to be almost useless against the new wave of drones and intelligent missiles. And here we are again.

At war with Iran, over supposedly nuclear weapons being assembled somewhere deep underground in places the U.S., despite its vast military power, is unable to penetrate and destroy. Remind you of anything? The tunnels on Iwo Jima, unexplored and hidden to this day from WWII. How about the many tunnels that are buried and furrowed under the ground and mountains in Vietnam?

As this article is written on the very day of the election and tomorrow the issue has to go to print, there is no way to truly predict the outcomes of all the races, and it’s going to take several republican seats changing to democratic to meaningfully make the changes to bring this nation into once again being considered the warm comfort zone where democracy is given as a gift to every citizen and to most of the other people from other countries who may be living inside its borders or simply visiting on vacation or to see what the country called the USA is really like from the inside.

The phrase that titles this article means ‘through my fault, through my most grievous fault,’ and is used in Catholic Mass for the parishioners to say to the Lord in seeking help or in supplication. Those words, spoken weekly through the years, help create a state of mind about how God is above us all and that we need to reflect on that important concept on a regular basis. The elections are just finishing as this is written and, without all the results in, but enough, this statement from the Catholic Mass should be evaluated in light of the leader of the free world, who has demonstrated that he neither accepts, nor adores, nor kneels in supplication to any one or any entity, including God Almighty. And so, as time does come to many people in many times, this man is being brought low.

The Pope voted absentee, like Trump, but he would not say whom he was voting for, but there’s every reason why it is easy to conclude that he voted straight democratic in this election. The Pope speaks and acts like he has all the elements of an honorable man who really means it when he says mea culpa to his supreme entity. The nation stopped on Tuesday, stood up, and then turned to face away from the leader who could only ever be properly described as mean-spirited.

Now, for two more years, he can sit in office in contemplation, threatening to veto everything this new democratically controlled Congress and Senate pass in the way of legislation, but, in truly brutal political reality, he is the one who has been vetoed, not that he will ever have the ability in his world and life to admit it.
