COMING HOME TO ROOST
It’s not just in Washington, or in Poland, or any of the other despotically run nations out there in the world. It’s right here in ‘River City,’ or rather, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, USA. The current leadership of Lake Geneva simply cancels meetings, particularly those where the public might get a chance to talk about something to them, and the population that’s not put on some agenda…those agendas created by the very people who don’t want to hear certain things about how the public thinks or feels about them, these leaders or the situations going on in and around the city.
Once more, a simple device was used to not have a personnel committee meeting. That’s gone on for months. The device is simply, not come up with an agenda for the meeting that has to be submitted and published for the public twenty-four hours before any meeting. That rule is established so people who may be interested can be informed that a meeting they might want to attend in person to simply ‘be there’ or speak to the council and other leadership is going to go on, including where and when the meeting is supposed to be. Isn’t it interesting that when reviewing something that’s supposed to have been coming on a coming personnel agenda? That issue or subject is the creation of the personnel review forms. The appointed personnel working for the city must be reviewed for their work, conduct, and so on once a year.
It’s the Lake Geneva City Clerk’s job to make those forms available to the city administrator. It’s also her job to place that item on the personnel committee agenda so elected officials can review the form. That same city clerk is responsible for creating the agenda with that information on it. So, she doesn’t. Not again on this last Monday night? No agenda so, by code, there could be no meeting again. None of Lake Geneva’s many six-figure appointed workers have to be much concerned about a blistering review or a review of their review by media like your own. This leadership has appointed two employees to positions without city council approval. That’s against the rules. The city attorney, on his own, decided that this was okay.
Joanie the Diner went down to the Riviera complex and read the riot act to the woman who competes with the woman across the way called the Candy Lady. J the D made a total fool of herself on full video. Now, she and Mayor Mayor are kicking the woman they don’t like out. How about Meetings of the Whole? Those have been canceled, for lack of a quorum or nothing at all upon occasion. Since Mary Jo Fesenmaier has been president of the council that’s not happened without a whole lot of complaints, however. This coming election is going to be a major one and will also probably have several primaries because of the number of people running for office. Never forget though, that many people take out the papers but then don’t have the time, ambition, or contacts to get the number of voters to back them on their nomination papers and never submit them on the January deadline date.
A new slate needs to be brought in, and that new slate needs to pull things back together in a hurry. Things like what’s going to happen to Hillmoor and the coming ‘highway through hell’ state and county road project to destroy Main Street off and on for two years. This is not small stuff. Vote for new blood at almost every opportunity (except Fesenmaier and Cindy. They’ve been terrific, but they’re only two out of eight. Help them out and help all of us out as well.
