What has happened to the mass media? The Geneva Shore Report has been reporting about the mass media and how the importance of small city and village newspapers has become so much more important for the public to read, and to support in any way it can. CBS, the oldest and most respected television news organization on the planet, has sold itself to Larry Ellison, the billionaire who also owns outright the island of Lanai, one of the Hawaiian Islands.
How that private ownership came about is about the same as how CBS News was lost to this tainted, tilted, and far-right-wing billionaire whose idea about the country has only to do with authoritarian domination. CBS News is now run by a woman who has had no news experience whatsoever, sort of like Tulsi Gabbard becoming the head of all the intelligence agencies after never being an agent or affiliated with intelligence or espionage in any way. CBS News is no longer objective about anything and is becoming the laughingstock of all the television stations of old.
Once there were only three. CBS, NBC, and ABC. The same thing has happened to one brilliantly written newspaper after another. The Washington Post, long vaunted to be one of the truly objective sources of news in the country, is now owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos, of Amazon fame. The L.A. Times fell to an Asian billionaire. The template for these purchases is all the same.
Authoritarian rule is now the goal of these supposed news organs, just as it is for Ruppert (billionaire) Murdoch. Somehow, these awful rich people have come to believe that they know best for everyone, particularly when it comes to getting everyone’s money. The small regional and small-town newspapers and video presentations (not unlike the GSR printed and online newspaper, and video weather and news reports every day) have become dependent upon for telling some sort of truth. Not the truth that has no opinion, as this front page is filled with the publisher’s opinion.
All news is opinionated, even if it only involves the selection of what stories appear on its pages or on its video and television presentations. Most of the smaller news agencies don’t cover very much in the way of international news simply because the reporters they hire work and live in the local areas, and the smaller news agencies, paper, online, video, or even television, simply don’t have the budget to send out reporters across the world. Most of the giant news organizations are no longer sending the reporters out there simply because they are reporting on what the billionaire owner tells them to report and write.
For ages, it was reported that most of the media was progressive, even though the owners of the news agencies were all becoming republicans even back then. The news was not progressive. It was just portrayed that way. That patina of the news having progressive elements has fast disappeared as the billionaires have figured out how to throw hundreds of millions into funding political candidates and hundreds of millions more to buy up all the major news outlets, including CBS.
Steven Colbert, of CBS late-night fame, and how to be fired for being so progressive, has been a lonely defender of fair and balanced news, but look at the price he is paying to do it. Colbert will one day go down as a hero of the era when big money came to be synonymous with freedom, with opportunity, and with even holiness. Jesus Christ threw the Pharisees out of the church in the Bible, but his conduct is not considered these days, just as most of the New Testament is being ignored, or its vital tenets of how to treat human beings are being totally ignored.
The brutal dictator and authoritarian leader of Hungary was, the day before the publishing of this issue, being touted by the U.S. Secretary of State as a wonderful leader and man, and endorsed to be ‘elected’ once again to maim and damage his own people. What are you doing as a republican in Southern Wisconsin to think about and then react to what you must react to or live under an Orbon’s, a Putin’s, or a Kim’s rule?
