ABORTION MAY BECOME LOCAL

Potential troubles that might be coming to ‘Catholic Hill’ in Lake Geneva. The Supreme Court’s ruling on Rowe v. Wade came down and along with it a curtain of deep dark descent into anger ate its way into the hearts and minds of a majority of Americans.  The pro-choice part of the population, with women in the far majority, comprises almost 70% of the total.  That’s a lot of people getting very angry.

In Milwaukee, four Catholic Churches have been defaced, although not downright attacked in any other way.  Milwaukee is known to lean pretty far to the progressive side, while outlying parts of the state lean the other way.  That the population, abortion stand-wise, is more conservative, by far, out in the rural areas may save these areas from protests that rise to the level of riots or even violent insurrection.  Much of the nation has been quietly seething anyway, due to the fact that popular opinions and votes do not seem to control a whole lot of what the country and many of the states do.

That feeling, along with the ever-growing imbalance of executive compensation and the growing number of billionaires that America is producing, can quickly lead to very serious trouble for a society that has already been challenged by the pandemic waves and then the inexorably growing pain of inflation.

The Catholic Church in Lake Geneva is already built more as a fortress than a church (note the security fences and brick edifices for walls, almost as if Lake Geneva’s public works director is a secret priest there), but such fortifications will not stop a truly inflamed and angry mob, which residents and visitors must hope does not form and head in that direction.  Never forget that in the course of human events it is always the downtrodden citizens who foment and then exercise what we call a revolution.  None of us want to live with a revolution in our times, as the results look very much like the ruins visible on television daily in Ukraine.

The Supreme Court decision is going to play out much more strongly in states that have enacted complete denial of abortions in almost all situations of pregnancy.  Wisconsin is one of those states, and the hue and cry about the perceived injustice of that can very quickly lead to violence.  Some states are requiring that women who travel out of state to get an abortion are committing a felony, even though that ‘crime’ is not committed in the state where they are full-time residents.

Wisconsin is not yet one of those states going fully forward with new laws against the conduct of many women that can only be considered draconian by those women and their supporters.  Whether travel permits might be required for pregnant women traveling from these states to other states, for whatever reason, the requirements for showing identity when moving from place to place (except for driver’s licenses in traffic violation situations) have been more identified with what happened in Germany before and during that war.  From these kinds of far-out actions, being likely required by some states, the result can lead to the ignition of what, with the number of guns distributed across the board to American citizens (400,000,000, and growing), insurrection might only be an initial result.

The nation is being evermore divided, and that division appears currently near unstoppable.  And yes, this is deadly serious.  A nation divided cannot stand and that there exist seemingly perfectly logical and educated people who are heading the USA in that direction is now an inescapable fact, no matter what political beliefs a beholder might hold.  All politics is local.  Catholic Hill could very well share a future reputation similar to Bunker Hill and all facets and belief system leaders in this country need to start ‘backing off’ and standing down.
