AGAINST THE FALL OF NIGHT
The public of America remains in the economic daytime simply because of the vast nature of inventory reserves on hand in American stores of different sizes and storage facilities around the country. The secondary reason that daytime, as happens in physical twenty-four hours a day in the Arctic for quite a while during summertime, is still holding on economically, is because of the mass media coverage being extended across the land, of which the Geneva Shore Report is unwilling but a part.
This story of the current economic condition of the country is important as a front-page article because the impact of the tariffs already in place, and the ones still declared to be coming very shortly, is not being fully felt at all. Americans are going about their lives spending like they always have and saving as little as they always have because, since WWII, life has been so economically wonderful, even through a couple of recessions. The mass media refuses to consider the potential of Rod Serling’s ‘signpost up ahead’ science fiction shows to become true.
A novel by the title of this article’s offering was published by a great British author named Arthur C. Clarke in 1953. It was the first science fiction novel ever read by the writer of this front-page tome. The story was appropriately set in dystopian times when civilization had gone to hell in a handbag, except for one walled-in city. A boy lived in the walled city, lied to by everyone in the city about there being no survivors outside the wall, and then by everyone outside the wall when he escaped the city.
These are not dystopian times, however, as America tries to come to terms with a leadership dead set on bringing such circumstances to this country and even the rest of the world. The media, meanwhile, is a substitute for all the lying people in the novel. The boy in that story believes the lies almost until the end. Will America be as gullible as that kid? Helped by the mass media, it is becoming more and more likely. The economy is being supported against the fall by current business inventories and a willingness of the larger U.S. companies to ‘take the pain,’ as the country’s leader instructed. The pain of kids at Christmas or with pencils in school is petty, but then all discomfort and pain is to be experienced and felt by other people, not the leader. His opulent and fraudulently acquired new plane is outfitted currently in the same awful, over-the-top, and tasteless décor and style as the Oval Office in the White House. Gilded gold everything. Solid gold nowhere. This resembles the substance of the man himself.
When is inflation going to come roaring back? As soon as these companies can no longer hold back the night. What will be the effect? Inflation will rise back to levels of the early eighties, likely, unless the government, so swallowed by the leaders’ feckless fellow travelers, publishes fictitious reports and provides a breathing space of belief that is not reality. Unless something stops this leadership, then such things as the appointment of a failing multi-billionaire to save the country money will continue (that DOGE man’s now rolling his eyeballs so badly that Tesla, SpaceX and the rest of the companies the man runs have to be shuddering as they begin to contemplate their demise). What does all this mean to Lake Geneva and its residents, businesses, government, and even visitors.
It means that, unless some grand act of God or unlikely reversal of course occurs inside the leadership, real economic pain, not pencil or Barbie-related, will be coming to the local level. How much pain can the communities around the lake absorb? That is something nobody wants to find out. Hold onto your money. Hold onto your current relationships. Invest in friendship and the people around you. The solid nature of the citizenship around Geneva Lake is truly amazing. Gamble on that. Help others as more difficult times prevail. Like the first Motel 6 commercial encouraged with its ‘we’ll leave a light on for you, and then the ad closed with a candle burning inside a nighttime window. Leave a ‘candle burning’ for those who may almost certainly need it.
