Forty-four percent of those living in Walworth County, Wisconsin receive benefits in one form or another (retirement, disability, or SSI payments) every month. That percentage is higher than the 31% of the entire national population. Not so quietly and with quite a bit of excitement and enthusiasm, the current national administration is seeking to end those payments just as quickly as it can do without admitting that that is exactly what the Trump-appointed DOGE under Elon Musk is doing. It remains a mystery as to how many of the recipients of this stunningly successful retirement program voted for Trump in the last election and how many of those who voted for him will have bitter acid in their mouths when they reach the point where no more checks will be forthcoming to be deposited to their accounts.
Every move by the current administration over the past two months has been aimed at taking all the money that people have put away for retirement (which Social Security payments are) with the justification that the money, like the money that the people paid over the years to fund Medicare, is a drag on the U.S. economy that has to be paid out of tax collected funds. Yes, the only reason that the money paid out is paid as part of the annual budget of the country is that another republican administration (the God-like wonder of Ronald Reagan) took the trust fund that was originally set up, spent it, and then made the obligation paid out of tax collected funds.
Taking Social Security money from retired and disabled recipients of their funds collected during their working years is theft. It’s felony theft of the highest order. In an Opinion Editorial earlier the Geneva Shore Report publisher wrote about Social Security funds being one of the ‘detonation cord’ parts of a ‘chain of fire’ that would, if ignited, explode the country into a violent revolution Never forget that through the entire history of time and the rise and fall of human cultures it is the young people who have fought such revolutionary wars but it is the old people who have sent and directed them in battle.
The average age of a Social Security recipient in Walworth County is 74 years of age. That age is right on the cusp of being considered old in the American culture. Most of those recipients will have nothing if they lose Social Security and when people, especially the aged have nothing, well, they also will have nothing to lose. Attention must be paid right this minute to Elon Musk and the power the now being revealed damaged leadership has been appointed to take taxpayer funds and redistribute them. To whom?
Elon’s car company called Tesla, once the rising star and newfound darling of the car industry is failing. Sales are slumping badly as the liberals who used to be customers abandon buying or owning them. Elon’s starships are blowing up, one after another, in mid-flight. Elon’s Starlink has stopped growing as it has proven to be neither as powerful nor extensive as it was advertised to be. Where is Elon Musk going for money, as the purported world’s richest man? In very short order he has become the nation’s second-largest private contractor, and his penetration of that multiplicity of federal funding entities and agencies continues to grow. Where are the trillions of Social Security money going to go once, he successfully ends the most successful and applauded retirement program on the planet?
