WE’RE FIRED
The Geneva Shore Report will no longer be available to the public at the Lake Geneva Municipal Facility or to the employees and staff of the city at that location. The city leadership made that decision last week, probably after reading the articles about “King” Hedlund and Mayor Mayor. Major Major was a character in Catch 22, which seems to be a screenwriting exposition of what the leadership in Lake Geneva is descending into being a whole lot like.
It’s not likely that Mayor Mayor was not in on the tossing out of the Geneva Shore Report. Somehow, that leadership has become ever more secretive and elusive. That leadership has basically gotten rid of the Meetings of the Whole, so that they don’t have to listen or see those citizens that might want to influence the leadership opinion when it comes to matters that may not be on the city agendas. Only agenda items, and public may be discussed at committee and other official meetings of those people chosen by election or appointment to sit on councils, committees, or commissions. Getting something on an agenda requires either the agreement of the City Administrator, Mayor Mayor or two members of a current city council. That the leadership does not have the good sense to not try to irritate or disturb a member of the triumvirate of the media in Lake Geneva (the other two ‘voices’ are 96.1 At the Lake radio and The Lake Geneva Regional News, is also revealing.
What happened to the openness and enthusiastic spirit of this leadership that was there only a year ago? What ‘poisoned’ the well of their good will, true citizen representation and even honest presentation? Hillmoor needs an application for insurance for liability? That’s a downright misrepresentation. Hillmoor, the instant it became part of the city was covered and is now covered for liability for whatever happens there. Are there really street people living on Hillmoor land? In Wisconsin in the winter?
We’re not at all sure that the people that may be inhabiting the forest part of the land are there at all and the city should not be discussing that as a safety concern unless there’s evidence, they can put forth to prove it. The city has not been forthcoming, until forced, for example, to discuss the extra seven million dollars in ‘reserve.’ The parking fiasco is just that, a public and local fiasco. There’s nobody parking much downtown, not as of last week, so how are the businesses doing in March? The city does not want to discuss this mess they’ve gotten everyone into, and that’s proven by the fact that they will not allow the new ad hoc parking committee to discuss it, at least Mayor Mayor won’t.
The people who are running the city right now don’t want criticism, direction or to be held accountable for anything. These features of representative and dictatorial rule have been with civilization since its beginning, so their feelings and conduct are nothing new. They are just surprising to find so deeply embedded into the very cores of people that, up to now, haven’t shown a penchant for being so very deeply taken up with their own importance and impressing of that importance, real or imagined, upon a caring public. The GSR will remain available at all the other 49 places it ’drops’ around the lake. The public has to know and the staff of the GSR is driven to reveal. The drive has become an embedded part of the very fiber of the people who run this most controversial newspaper. Get thrown out of the governmental offices becomes, for the staff, a measure of just how much it is getting right.
Secrecy means collusion, collusion means collaboration and that shows under lying CORRUPTION. So who is trying to develop something out of the public eye? Watch Hillmoor with extra scrutiny. I walk to the downtown, takes 25 minutes, is good for my health and I’ll be DAMMED if I’m paying FOUR DOLLARS an hour to support a SECRETIVE city council under the direction of a flipped mayor. Law n order – sound familiar?
You do realize the parking price stayed the same from Monday to Thursday don’t you? and when the Shore Report says no one is parking down town as of last week, they certainly realize the weather is bad and the economy under the ‘secret’ basement admin of Biden is horrible.
Thank you for your in-depth observation.
I agree and I also will not pay for parking in Lake Geneva ever again!! We need people on our board that actually live here and care about the needs of our beautiful City
Bravo GSR for getting thrown out of the dictatorial office. Keep up the good work.
The old saying…”The more things change… the more they stay the same”… we absolutely live in the Bizzarro world! (Alternate world from Superman comics)….
