MOVE OVER PIG!

A new Natural Grocers is planned for Lake Geneva and is set to open in the former JOANN Fabrics store on Edwards Boulevard. The Colorado-based company, also known as Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocers, has purchased the lease and is in the process of setting up the new location.

Natural Grocers is a health-food chain known for its organic produce, grass-fed meats, and other natural and organic products. Workers have started repainting the outside of the new store in preparation for this exciting new business, which has opened just seven new stores in the last five years. The company that owns and founded the stores is still running them today and is very selective about where it opens new locations. They offer a variety of 100% organic produce, natural body care products, and 100% pasture-based dairy. They also offer pet products, household products, vitamins and supplements, and a bulk department.

For those of you looking for some relief from the Piggly Wiggly, or its better-known name, The Pig.  Expect this new place to be many things the Pig is not known for. Nice people behind the counters when you want some personal attention or something cut or whatever.  Now, about a shiny cleanliness that the Pig doesn’t ever strive for, much less accomplish.  This new place, being located so close to the Pig’s location, will have another effect.  Competition close by.  The Pig is going to have to measure up or move on.

Why is it that The Pig in Delavan, owned by the same family, is a whole lot nicer and has really nice, agreeable employees?  Because of which Steinbrink is running what store, and the Lake Geneva store is run by a particularly macho and aggressive male member.  Is there any wonder that that kind of schoolyard bully attitude permeates the place as well?

Most people who use that store are rather oblivious to what’s written as GSR experience here, which is why the GSR now gets almost three million views of its videos a year.  188,000 in November as this paper is either delivered to you personally, mailed to you, dropped at one of the 50 businesses that carry it around the lake, or you get to read it online on the genevashorereport.com website or on the terrifically popular Facebook site of the same name.

The GSR is not loved by everyone, but if you want the local news that nobody else investigates and publishes, coming straight at you from the shoulder, like with this front-page story, then there is no alternative to fall back on.  When the GSR is wrong, and sometimes it is, then you get the confession and apology right here on the front page, not buried in the back in smaller print.  Being wrong on occasion and taking the pain from that, delivered by you, the readers, helps our writers and editors avoid making another mistake.  This week, for example, two major stories were investigated but found to have no merit.  So, you don’t read about them here.  And nobody will be hurt unnecessarily in public.

We did your due diligence, and sometimes that means no story.  We so wanted there to be dirt, but it wasn’t there.  And that could be the least satisfying thing about being reporters and editors on something like the GSR.  Doing a lot of work and then coming up dry, wherein nobody will ever truly know that we didn’t proceed anyway.   But The Pig?  It needs work and modification, and renewal is long overdue. Go to the store in Delavan, and you will discover exactly the truth, as we see it.
