HERE, THERE, EVERYWHERE

A quarter of the way through his term, Lake Geneva’s mayor, Todd Krause, is all over the place…and that’s written in a very good way. He’s cutting ribbons and appearing at the office almost every day. He’s meeting with people so often that his head is spinning, but also in a good way. He appeared at the ribbon cutting for the very successful Dragon Days, home-based in Library Park, and was about to cut the ribbon when he spotted the candidate he defeated to become mayor in the last election. Charlene Klein was in attendance but back in the crowd.  Charlene was mayor when it was decided to approve and support the establishment of the very first Dragon Days event. Todd would not proceed to cut the ribbon until Charlene came forward and was honored as the person who helped make the whole now annual event a success, and a success it was.

This year’s Dragon Days exceeded the prior year’s attendants and visitors by a fact of five. The town was positively stuffed with people walking around, purchasing items in local stores, and generally having a great time. Parking was, once again, a real study in frustrated road rage lightly contained but still evident. Mayor Todd is not only the consummate gentleman for bringing forth the former mayor (who still continuously attacks him at every opportunity using her rather weird supporters using anonymous identities on the Internet) but in crediting her with being such a big part of the success of Dragon Days. The mayor also kept the beach closed for two extra days after the state released its hold on allowing people to get in the lake water because of the enzyme or whatever it was that bloomed up to cause a lot of fear.

Despite the lost revenue to the city, Todd Krause stood tall and made that call. It’s too bad he’s not making the play calls for the Green Bay Packers, as Jordon Lost Love needs all the help he can currently get as long as it doesn’t have the last name of Willis.  Todd is currently working on getting a new slate of citizens to form up and become the Hillmoor committee…which will be assigned the task of coming up with useful and hopefully profitable uses for that wonderful piece of real estate.

Charlene Klein was fully involved in the purchase of the property, but Mayor Krause must be very careful in calling on her to take another bow. There’s little doubt that that woman is getting ready to challenge him again in the coming election. It will be no contest at all if Mayor Krause continues to perform in an almost super-human manner as he’s been doing so far while in office.  Some say that the GSR was the motive too that got Todd elected but that’s not at all true. The collective mind of Lake Geneva is much more complex and independent than that. Krause overwhelmingly won the election because he had a plan and a message and he was fully capable, as he remains, of presenting that to the people. Was the GSR staff right in supporting the man?

The answer keeps on pouring in and it’s a resounding “yes” in every area we work to investigate and examine. The GSR has no agenda, other than to support those who support the lake, the communities around the lake, and those residents, voters, owners, and residents who work to make the lake life around Geneva Lake what it is. It’s not paradise, as some have termed it, but it is a place of warmth, care, support, and beauty. It’s a great pleasure to see the current mayor exhibit those same feelings and goals.
