TRICK OR TREAT
It’s all tricks on the Sunday before the following Friday when Halloween actually goes down. Traditionally, Halloween has always been celebrated throughout the country in the early and late evening hours of the 31st itself, but times have changed, as has the orientation of some people’s minds.
The Lake Geneva City Council decided two weeks ago that the kids and adults going out to circulate among neighborhoods locally should not go out on that night and should be more directed to trick or treat from downtown businesses instead of going out through the neighborhoods throughout the city.
Safety. This is the big word of the new millennium. When in doubt, do nothing. When safety is brought up as an issue, run and hide or stay hidden and don’t go out at all. The last thing going on in Lake Geneva is an unsafe condition for kids to be out at night, but what do the facts matter when dealing with the fright-filled adults of modern times?
That children of today are governed and imprisoned by strict rules of conduct and presentation, not to mention time usage, is a sad legacy of Covid, as well as the current more than agonizingly fearful political and even real potential for violence in modern times. That parents are lining up in Lake Geneva to cower and exercise avoidance of just about everything for their kids means that there will be even less physical association or playing among them.
Is there any wonder that the American population is shrinking at a soon-to-be terminal rate…only held up by Immigration, and we all know what’s happening to that safety valve. While this is being written, federal troops are being sent into the downtown areas of Chicago and Portland, Oregon, by the nation’s leader.
Ostensibly, this move is to protect federal buildings (which are not under attack by anyone), but this leader spoke his version of the truth to his gathered military leaders last week. The troops are to use the city populations for combat training. There’s an ‘internal invasion’ going on, and the invaders are the democrats, more than half the nation’s voting population. Washington, D.C. was the first real experiment, and what is the result?
People are not going out anymore or driving as they are afraid of being confronted and having their ’papers’ forcefully produced, even to the point of tickets and arrests for minor car registration, insurance, or traffic infractions without probable cause being present at all. Restaurants are boarding up, and businesses are retreating all over the city as fear replaces celebration. An aging white autocrat suffering dementia leads the country into fearful, frozen and lock-step marching denizens of the intellectually living and moving dead. As with what’s being done with trick or treating, the public must resist the tendency to cower inside or consider safety over all other concerns.
The country cannot long stand if everyone stays inside until industry, production, and distribution of goods and services become frozen or non-existent. Sometimes, the Marine Corps expression: “Take care of the big things and the little things will go to shit,” is most apropos. It is the seemingly smallest items, like simple trick or treating, that stand at the very foundations of what everything is built upon. The other communities around the lake are not giving in to this fear-laced decision by the City of Lake Geneva leadership, and they are to be applauded for taking that stand.
