LETTER TO THE EDITOR
The Front page with Channel 25 issue is much more complicated than the silence of the lamb’s indication. The city council is just as frustrated as the public, but Spectrum holds all the cards & without Spectrum, we have no televised channel. Instead, why not give the public some positive alternatives with live recordings & the GSR giving them ‘accurate’ updates of/where the problem really occurs.
3rd page Surprising Stuff. Todd does not decide anything except in tie votes. The “tin shed” is not a NEW building. The salt shed is a much-needed addition/add-on/expansion to the current shed already in place at the yard. This saves $$$$ to have salt for LG put here in LG, instead of buying & driving back & forth to the county, costing not only the salt, but fuel for the truck’s trips & manpower hours to make these trips. The “tin shed” added to the current unit is built to keep all the salt ready to use in LG. Instead, why not give the public something positive to think about, like the city is resolving our salt depletions in the winter by putting an expansion on our salt building to save time/money from the county?
Pg 3 Bright Side. The “new toy police boat-tonka”… First, there is no cost discussed yet on this exploratory matter. The need for the LG PD boat has been discussed. GLLEA Organization has completely changed since 2019 & 2020 when I was harbormaster & right at the time Tom Hauser resigned as Commander. He was sharp, had excellent staffing & training. With the change in management, also there was to date a complete change in staffing. Their staff now is very poor, & they cannot keep staff, & with so few PD Staff, they only use one boat. Because of this, response time is very poor now & unacceptable. As for your comment of “What Crime?” Back in 2019 & 2020 alone, we had boat after boat of drunken drivers, no-experience drivers loaded with coolers of beer & children, boats in no parking zones, unruly boaters running into other boats purposely, etc, etc… I had the GLLEA here in LG bay on speed dial! Today, it’s even worse & more concerning with our greatly increased summer visitor population. The WSP-Water Safety Patrol does not respond to these types of calls because that is not their role, which is geared mostly to water safety with first aid responders. The Police/Fire Committee began this conversation with the city because of all of the above. Tom Clausen & many others make up this committee with the LGPD & LGFD. They all brought this resolution of all the problems mentioned above to the city. The resolution to keep LG safe is a PD Boat, which is a long-time need, finally being discussed. Giving out Tom’s phone # was unnecessary; instead, give them mine, I have more experience in lake & boat life, traffic & use. Also, boasting about “how smartly 2 alderpersons voted no” was also incorrect. Sure, they voted no, but neither listened, prepared themselves with the factual information, nor understood what’s really happened to our lake traffic & population during the summer. These are things that would mean actually getting out, talking to the people who already know the facts. Instead, & better yet, give the public something positive to think about: like the city is working on a positive solution to help our Geneva Bay stay safe with our massively growing summer population. We are also working on Grants to help with all of the costs, & it’s already in process!
Pg 4 traffic signal @ Townline/Edwards-Hwy 120. The city has been requesting help from the DOT since I came into office. That intersection is very dangerous, 6 lanes N&S, & people E&W at stop signs are afraid to pull out. We tried a speed study to lower the 45 mph speed & it didn’t pass for the DOT. Fast forward, after ongoing discussions & attempts, we have finally got the DOT to work with the city to help with the costs. The engineering costs are always high:m in Every placement of any work in LG: they are the ones who’s engineers mark out ALL of the strategic measured plans & this is no different for this one. Having Symphony Bay pay or contribute to this is like demanding that Walgreens & Walmart pay for the others, Edward’s/Hwy 50 intersection light. Or a gas station pay for the light on any USA corner. That won’t happen. Instead, why not give the public a positive story about how the city has won the fight for that dangerous corner & safety is on the way with a stop light coming to Townline/Edwards Hwy 120. Currently, we are having the engineers get it right for placement (which the DOT does not do these engineering things). That would be a relief for everyone who risks their life on that intersection daily! Jim, help us all with the correct information. If you want city news, then ask me anytime, or let me write it ( which I know you don’t want that). But let’s have some positive news for the residents/public.
Give them updates that are real, actual facts. Don’t become an Enquirer with trash that causes my & other city officials’ phones & emails to blow up from misquoted information like the LGRN. Jim, you’re better than that, I know you are & I love you guys to pieces, but these combined went too far. Help me give the residents/public the factual, reassuring information.
I can’t do this alone, I need your help & you have the public means to do it.
