LITTLE GEMS
Food, Games, rides, and more right here right now in Lake Geneva.
The 62nd Annual Venetian Fest has started and the five-day event has nothing but fun on the schedule. Wednesday, August 14th through Sunday, August 19th in Flat Iron Park and Seminary Park the carnival will be rocking with excitement. There is a great lineup of live entertainment scheduled along with the adult favorite beer tent. This weekend Saturday and Sunday, August 18th an 19th in Library Park the annual Art and Craft Fair will be open. In addition to all the festivities of the Venetian Carnival and the Vendor Fair, Sunday will have the Ski Show at the Riviera, The Lighted Venetian Boat Parade along the shore of Geneva Lake at dusk, and the Grand Finale will be the traditional Firework Show.
With Art in the Park happening this past weekend and Venetian this week
Wrigley Drive between Broad and Center Street is closed.
Maxwell Street Days August 23rd through the 26th.
This is a weekend of great deals and fun shopping. The downtown businesses will have the sidewalks filled with unique items at fabulous prices. This is an annual tradition in Lake Geneva and a very popular shopping event. So many locals and visitors venture downtown and shop their favorite shops. It’s a great time to pick up a couple of unique back-to-school items, start some Christmas shopping, or just grab a few things you’ve been eyeing up. The retail shops start the deals off at a great discount but as the weekend continues more discounts are sometimes offered. Make sure to take a stroll through downtown Lake Geneva and check out the deals.
Why on God’s green earth?
The street of Wrigley Drive is shut down into late August. That makes Center Street, from where it converts from South Lake Shore Drive first into Wrigley (the unclosed part) and then becomes Center Street itself is a necessary disaster to drive up (toward the north). Not only is all the summer traffic redirected to that single lane but the signal at that intersection is a complete disgrace.
As if that wasn’t enough!
Public Works started ripping up and replacing huge chunks of sidewalk up and down North Wells Street. That stretch of highway is the only relief valve for those locals who know about it and can use it to get around the jammed-up downtown mess. The ‘elephant’ mess in the living room, is the kind of thing that everybody notices but nobody wants to do anything about. Thanks so kindly public works for adding the summer misery for all those folks who live in and around this usually wonderful city.
Change the darned lights. Two minutes for Main Street traffic that is not getting through during summer weekend days and then twenty seconds for the line of cars down Center. Please!
