LITTLE GEMS

The murals planned for downtown Lake Geneva are temporarily on hold.
Originally planned for this fall, the program has been pushed off into May of next year. There are some technical difficulties with logistics, permits and some of the details. An entire event is being planned to be part of the painting of the murals, with spectators being able to watch the artists as they work to create their masterpieces. This is likely going to draw a new artistic crowd to Lake Geneva, and those wanting to take some great pictures. The murals will be a great way for families to enjoy Lake Geneva, as well.

The Business Improvement District (BID) is planning a smaller event this fall to give visitors and residents a sneak peek at what the murals might look like. They are hoping to have artists demonstrate the process of painting the murals with smaller pieces of their works being offered for sale. This would be a great fundraiser to help cover the costs of creating the murals downtown if there was some sort of sharing arrangement with the artists. Everyone is looking forward to what the BID has in store for the murals and the whole downtown

A Lake Geneva Venetian Fest story.
A kid collected all his change to go play the runway ‘games’ on the fairway of the Venetian Day Fest grounds at Flat Iron Park a few years back.  The kid was seven, and his name was Clark.  The game of his choice was the one where players are allowed to purchase five darts to throw at the balloons pinned to a board about ten feet away.  The prize for breaking five balloons in one turn was a giant Winnie the Pooh bear.  Clark was determined to win that bear for his younger brother who was too young to play but loved everything about the 40 Acre Wood and the characters he thought were real.  Clark spent all his money until he came to only having enough to play one more time.  He bought the darts, and then took his time to aim carefully at one of the top balloons, a yellow one.

He threw.  The dart broke the balloon, but then slipped from the backboard and fell, right through four more balloons below before it hit the ground.  Five balloons had popped.  Clark screamed in joy, but the guy behind the counter said that he had to pop five balloons with five darts, not five with one.  And then a half hour of furious arguing began, as Clark argued his case and the guy argued back.  Finally, a crowd gathered, entranced by the hard-fought verbal contest.  The guy behind the counter finally gave up and handed Winnie over to Clark.  Clark immediately ran off to find his brother, the five-year-old having no idea one of his dreams had come true.
