LITTLE GEMS

The elections are coming.
The August 9th, 2022 Primary Elections are less than a week away, and there are only a few days left for in-office absentee voting at Lake Geneva City Hall. Friday, August 5th, at 4:30 p.m., absentee voting ends and the polls do not reopen until election day.

All Lake Geneva residents from all four districts will vote at City Hall.

The regular Polls open Tuesday, August 9th at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

The birds are back.
After all the investigation, the raising of a substantial amount of reward money for anyone turning in the rotten human being who was behind the poisoning of the seagulls, and more…well, the birds are back.  The seagulls are back atop the Riviera and greedily consuming hot dogs and saltines at the beach area every morning.  The ducks are back in full force, kind of cruising around and wondering why the gulls and other birds get all the snacks.

The Geneva Shore Report was wrong.  Again.  And the proof of that is that the birds are the same birds (at least the seagulls) that were flocking along the northern edge of the lake last year.  The staff of the GSR knows the birds and the birds know them.  They come right up to staff members every morning, as if asking “so where were you guys,” and so on.

Birds are hard to understand, although people (especially newspaper reporters and editors) can sometimes be even more of a challenge.  One of the reasons that the front page used to have an artful representation of Don Quixote was because it is so easy for any news organization to go off chasing windmills, even when there are no windmills to be found to be stabbed with make-believe spears.
