LITTLE GEMS

The parking issues that have reared up during this ‘free parking’ period (to end in mid-February) are not going away.
The mayor of Lake Geneva appeared before the BID (Business Improvement District) board of directors last week to give her monthly report on the condition of business in and around Lake Geneva.  She appeared stung by comments made about the new four dollar an hour rate set to go into effect next summer (in the downtown area meters) and the raising of overtime fines moving from 20 dollars up to 50 dollars.  Instead of arguing her case by justifying the rate increases, as she’d done before, by saying they were necessary because of the outrageous raises given to some top city employees, she went in a different direction.  She stated that: “the increased rates will bring in a better-quality tourist to the area, enabling them to purchase more.”

This newspaper cannot make this stuff up as brilliantly and creatively as the current leadership!  Increased parking rates somehow attract better quality and more well-heeled visitors?  We would suppose that the 50-dollar fines might also raise that bar of incredibly idiotic logic to allow for even higher quality tourists to arrive endlessly, lined up to pay the fines with great smiles and heavy backslapping.  In what world?

 Axe Throwing in Lake Geneva.
The new LG Axe Throwing operation, at 253 center Street suite 900, is now open. The LG Axe Throwing is open from 12 p.m. through 10 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, 12 p.m. through 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and Sunday from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. There are six lanes for throwing, all with wooden targets to hit. This business has been in the works for months and all the planning has paid off. People are excited and intrigued to see what axe throwing is all about. When a customer walks in, he or she is greeted by staff, all personnel willing and ready to show that customer what it’s all about. One patron, publicly interviewed, stated rather ridiculously: “learning this sport is really necessary and healthy for home defense.”

Home defense is not listed as anything recommended in the throwing of axes, at least not in any of the interviewing of owners and employees of the axe operation that were conducted, and there’s nothing like that in the literature.  Axe throwing is rather a pursuit and sport done for fun and other personal enjoyment.   The Christmas movie called “Christmas Story” tells the tale of a kid longing for a BB gun.  The refrain in the movie repeats over and over again: “you’ll shoot your eye out.”  This axe throwing thing is going to get somebody hurt, and it’s only a matter of time, in the opinion of the GSR staff.

The Big Balloon Build is coming to Lake Geneva this March 24th through the 26th. Tickets go on sale just in time for Christmas.
Timber Ridge, part of the Grand Geneva Resort complex, is offering tickets with a two-night package deal, or people can visit Wisconsin Balloon Décor’s website for pre-sale perks. The event is hosted by Wisconsin Balloon Décor, all to benefit the charity called Inspiration Ministries. The presenting sponsor is Kunes RV and Auto Group, and the event will be held at Covenant Harbor. This is an event like nobody’s ever seen before. Over 100,000 balloons are artistically arranged by artists from all over the world. The construction takes five or more days, as this is no small feat. This charity event has been in the works for some time and is almost here. The event and ticket purchases are a great gift idea and a complete surprise for the entire family if you get them.
