LITTLE GEMS

The matter of great, brilliant, caring, and fairly inexpensive medical personnel.
Two great doctors and their office staff have surfaced in recent weeks with reports of great professional service and substantially less expensive charges.  Dr. Timothy Henke, the chief podiatrist at Advanced Foot and Ankle in Burlington, is not only a neat man but he’s spot on when it comes to diagnosis and then necessary services to fix foot and ankle problems.  His recent workup and analysis, and then treatment of a patient’s ankle saved that patient from having to undergo extremely painful surgery, long-enduring recovery, and then having a limp for life.  Dr. Henke went against other doctors in determining that steroid shots into the joint would work to minimize the pain to acceptable levels and let the patient walk normally.  The treatment worked.  This doctor deserves the plaudits the Geneva Shore Report is giving him here.

The other doctor, Doctor Jennifer Belucci-Jackson, is a wonderful medical professional working in a very busy office in Richmond, Illinois, right across the Wisconsin border.  Her help in supporting a wounded veteran was extraordinary, and that veteran left her office not only in an improved physical condition but feeling so good psychologically that he thought to call the Geneva Shore Report.  Thanks for being out there to two great doctors during this time of the nation’s dire medical situation.

Magpie’s Den and Pen opens before Christmas.
Northsiders Bar and Grill, previously known as Carveti’s, and before that The Board Room, is about to become something new: Magpie’s Den & Pen. After decades of business and many challenges, Dan Carveti sold his business and property at 642 Main Street. The over three thousand square foot building, with extra usable outdoor space, was originally built in 1970, sold for 1.3 million dollars. This prime location has the potential to once again be a thriving hot spot in downtown Lake Geneva. Anthony, the new owner wasted no time and has started extensive renovations. The building is undergoing a complete redevelopment and promises to be open for business Monday, December 20, 2021 at 4 p.m.  Go in and check out Magpies for some very likely great eats, fun drinks, and a good time.

No increase was implemented.
Alderperson Flower presented a plan to the city council about how elected officials should receive increases at the same rate city employees do. She felt that the officials work very hard and put in much time for the city, and the residents of the city, and should be compensated accordingly. Alderperson Fessenmaier did not agree and stated that the pay should be decreased. She obviously didn’t feel it was right to give the council a raise (including herself). Her position was discussed in detail, as not all candidates, or those already in office, have the luxury of working almost full time for very little pay. The council voted for no increase, however. The Lake Geneva elected officials advocate for the people and the city for the money, as well as goodness from their hearts. Alderpersons make $5,200 annually, and the mayor earns $7,800 a year. This breaks down to $433 to $650 monthly, for most full-time positions. With the hours they put in at city hall at meetings, the time spent at home reading and researching city issues and requests, attending public events, and responding to correspondence with the people they represent, this current compensation system does not seem fair at all.
