LITTLE GEMS
Funny world of mostly silent and barely understandable differences.
Has anyone seen a regular single roll of toilet paper or paper towels for sale lately?
If you go into Walmart, Sentry, Piggly Wiggly and even Target, you find multiple rolls of both toilet and paper towels. They all now come in multiples. You get three rolls that are equal to six or maybe nine singles. Ten rolls that are the equivalent of thirty. You get charged for the highest number, of course, and also, and this is the kicker. The customer has no idea anymore what about the original size of the paper was that all this advertising glitz and likely misrepresentation is all about. The scam has worked, however. Customers have no clue about the size of those ancient rolls so the sellers of these products can now say whatever they want and price accordingly.
Did you know that in China they twist wire to hold bread together or hold gifts in place in shipping boxes by twisting them shut counterclockwise, while American’s almost all twist things shut moving the joined wires in a clockwise direction? Maybe that has something to do with the earth’s rotation. In China, also, the culture there does not believe in handicapped parking or access using ramps, etc. The culture believes that disabled people must accept their lot and get served and have access accordingly. Many Chinese people get tickets upon coming to the US for parking in handicapped slots. They can read and understand, but park there because they are mad at the very idea of handicapped people getting some benefit, they don’t think they deserve. Funny world of mostly silent and barely understandable differences.
Winterfest 2023 begins today.
Wednesday February 1st through the weekend will be all about winter fun. The fifteen sculpting teams will be creating masterpieces out of giant blocks of snow (rectangular in shape instead of tubes as in the past) up until judging on Saturday. The creation of the sculptures is amazing to watch and the ice sculptors around downtown is another great part of the event. The bonfires on the beach have become another staple of Winterfest. This Friday and Saturday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Bonfires on the Beach will include cozy bonfires, warm drinks, gooey smore’s, and live entertainment by Fox Valley Fine Arts. Get ready for a busy week full of a plethora of winter fun.
Do you sometimes think our hotels in the Lake Geneva area are inadequate?
Try the Rosen Shingle Resort near Disneyland in Florida. This writer just had experience there. You check in coldly, at a distance and get a room without meeting anyone. You find out that you can make calls out on the house phone, but they are $1.71 a minute and the recording tells you, when you pick up the phone receiver, that all calls coming in or going out are recorded. Nobody can find you in the hotel, which may be a good thing there, because for someone to find you would require that they first know your room number, your registered full name and then submit their full name and the reason for the call. You must hold while they check your name against some database only, they know about. Do not lose your cell phone, although reception, either by accident or intent, within the hotel complex is lousy.
Lake Geneva hotels and motels have exceptional service, and the Rosen Shingle isn’t going to make it around Geneva Lake or even in Southern Wisconsin. The people are simply too wonderful here to either do crap like that or put up with it.
You say ‘Many Chinese people get tickets upon coming to the US for parking in handicapped slots’ Why aren’t non-handicapped people getting ticketed for parking in handicapped slots with fake, expired or otherwise dishonestly obtained handicap placards/plates?
Good question. Maybe one to be directed to Police Departments?
