LITTLE GEMS

Automotive electricity coming at us all, ever so quickly and silently.
Ford Motor Company is getting out of combustion engine-powered vehicles by 2030 and GM will be making the conversion to all-electric before then.  The new Ford F-150, the most popular vehicle sold in America, is now going all-electric. Chevy’s Silverado is now offered in all-electric.  What comes after the nation goes all-electric in motor vehicles?  Automatic driving.  This is another invention that one can complain about all one wants but it’s inexorably coming no matter what the size and amount of complaints.

Human beings simply don’t drive well, and the statistics certainly confirm that.  On top of that, driving requires a human’s total attention to do it safely.  With automatic, all members inside vehicles will be able to not only relax but pay attention to other things.  Elon Musk, in his brilliance, is launching his Starlink satellites in order to provide constant ‘on the road’ Wi-Fi connection.  People riding in automatically driven vehicles will be able to be ‘wired-in’ at all times, for communications, information, and gaming.  There is no point in resisting this coming series of developments.  It’s like refusing to have a cell phone or smart television.  You can do it but you do it by being ever more alone.

What in hell are they thinking over at the Melges car wash?
The cheapest car wash you can get at Melges now, Lake Geneva’s only ‘real’ car wash, costs forty bucks. Yes, that is 40.00 dollars U.S.  That’s up from thirty bucks a few months ago and twenty a few years ago.  Who’s going to pay forty bucks for a car wash, even if it’s the only carwash that does the interior cleaning as part of the process?

Why did this carwash increase prices by 25 percent, instead of something more reasonable?  Is it intended to be the carwash of BMW’s and Mercedes Benz exclusively?  Mr. Melges was on vacation so there was nobody to talk to about this issue.  If the basic car wash is going to remain at forty dollars, then there are a lot of regular people who need to know this.  Getting in line at the car wash has no option to bail out once committed.  Be careful that you know what you are driving into when you go there for a wash.
