LITTLE GEMS

Lake Geneva price of gasoline gets stupid for the New Year’s celebration.
Normally, the price of gasoline in Illinois (with a hefty sixty cent higher gasoline tax) is much higher than in all of Wisconsin. People drive to the Wisconsin border to buy gas because the price differential can be so great.  Well, the few days before the New Year, suddenly and without any warning or announcement, the price of gasoline jumped from $2.79 a gallon to $3.09 a gallon.  In most of Illinois the price of gasoline plummeted down to $2.69.

What the hell is going on?  No, this is not because of a statewide Wisconsin thing.

The price of gasoline in Milwaukee remains between $2.49 and $2.69 a gallon. This kind of price gouging, going on right now in Lake Geneva, is supposed to be prevented by state law, but it only works if the gas stations go along with the law and the state steps in to punish the stations if they don’t. Obviously, the stations doing this throughout Lake Geneva have figured out that the state is off for the holidays, and when the state officials come back in this new year, they’ll do their usual ‘ho-hum’ business as usual thing because the oil and gas producers are simply too big to mess with.  How long will Wisconsin residents in the Lake Geneva area put up with this behavior by their gas station owners before beginning to pass local ordinances that either tax the hell out of them or force them to move outside the city limits?

Early Thursday morning the Walworth County Sheriff’s Communication Center received a 911 call stating that a male had opened fire at a house party.
The call came in at 2:02 a.m., reporting a male who was seen threatening guests at a home on Hamms Road (with a gun). Deputies and officers from the Village of East Troy Police Department arrived on scene at approximately 2:11 a.m. and observed at least 20 people in and around the residence. The suspect then fled on foot with police officers in pursuit. The suspect began shooting at the officers and disappeared into the woods while the officers stopped at that point and requested assistance from surrounding communities. SWAT was called along with a Suburban Mutual Assistance Response Team (SMART) for additional officers in an attempt to stabilize the scene and search for the suspect. An alert was sent via text to the surrounding area to inform everyone of safety precautions and updates throughout the incident. Once the perimeter was established, with the assistance of local departments, the suspect was caught and taken into custody with no injuries. This is an ongoing investigation and witnesses are still being interviewed and evidence is still being collected. There is no further threat to the community.
