LITTLE GEMS

What happened with the first snow emergency declaration this winter?
That emergency was declared on Friday afternoon when a forecast came in that a huge snowstorm was going to directly impact the city.  Tom Earle was out of town on vacation (how is it that Tom is on vacation during almost all snowfalls in Lake Geneva?) so he can’t be blamed here. Even though he is the head of public works and runs the street department, he does not have the authority to declare a snow emergency.  That authority belongs to the mayor, the city council, and the police department.

When the emergency was declared, it was originally set to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.  What?  The heart and soul of the emergency declarations have to do with the parking regulations for vehicles during the period of the declaration’s stated and announced time.  If a declaration was declared, to begin at 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon, then that would mean no parking for any vehicles all day long in front of businesses.

Development is on the rise in Lake Geneva.
The newest development in Lake Geneva was approved last month. This is another on the list of major residential developments in the works. The “Vistas of Lake Geneva” is located in Lake Geneva, near Lasalle Street and Edgewood Drive. The development is about seventeen acres in size and will accommodate almost sixty single-family homes. The ground is being cleared and the land is being prepped for phase one to begin.

The Summerhaven subdivision has also added more homes to its neighborhood, off Wells Street in its final phase, and will include twenty-three more homes.

The Symphony Bay development recently started another phase of building, adding a bunch more single-family homes, drastically increasing the population and traffic on the Southeast side of Lake Geneva.

The Vistas Group out of Chicago is the most recent developer to be approved for a twenty-seven-acre property development located at the northwest corner of Townline Road and Edwards Boulevard for a proposed residential neighborhood. The precise implementation plan still needs approval and is expected to cover a traffic study to address the safety issues in that area that already exist for the neighborhood across the street in regard to entering Cumberland Trail. These safety concerns are expected to increase the Vistas group proposed development. The building continues to increase in Lake Geneva as the population continues to grow. The visitors that come are deciding they want to stay, and who can blame them as Lake Geneva is a beautiful place filled with great Wisconsin people.
