LITTLE GEMS
The Driehaus Fountain in front of the Riviera has been vandalized repeatedly and the City of Lake Geneva has had enough.
It seems like every spring when the fountain is highlighted and turned on, someone comes along and damages the angel that adorns the top of the fountain, and down it comes to then be sent off for repairs. The missing angel takes away from the fountain’s grandness and repairs are not quick, plus the cost to the city is substantial. With the new renovations and additions to Riviera security this last incident was caught on camera and the two suspects were apprehended almost immediately. Not only did the camera catch the action, but an onlooker caught it on video as well. A Lake Geneva Police officer happened to be about a hundred feet away and witnessed the whole thing. The two vandals were young male adults who evidently had too much to drink, which is what seems to have motivated this costly damage of property. This time around, the damage to the angel was very extensive, with one wing completely off, the other one mangled, both arms and legs twisted, and a crackdown on the side of the statue’s torso. The cameras are a great tool for catching anyone damaging the fountain but that does not necessarily stop it from happening. The city will be installing signs in the Driehaus Plaza, making people aware that they are on camera. Hopefully, this will help keep the angel safe and atop the fountain for all to enjoy.
The BP Station, on Main Street and Pellar Road, is making progress.
The old BP Station was razed in early spring of 2021 and construction began shortly after. The excitement around the new development has a lot to do with the second floor and the Dunkin Donuts addition to the property. The gas station will continue to have a convivence store and the Subway sandwich shop, along with the immensely popular Dunkin Donuts. However, the carwash will not be a part of the new development. The Dunkin Donuts will have its wonderful coffee and donuts that a lot of people were hoping for. Even though Lake Geneva has several coffee shops, a few of them being Starbucks, they all seem to do well, so the idea of another coffee shop is not that farfetched. The upstairs will have additional seating for patrons of Dunkin Donuts and Subway. The BP Station is set to open in late summer or early fall of this year.
The little things in life.
Hawaii has the most rainbows, by number, of any other place on earth. That fact is due to the vastness of the body of the Pacific that surrounds the islands, and the moisture it causes to circulate regularly in the passing trade winds. Sixty-nine percent of all freshwater is ice, held in the ice caps at both poles. Ninety-six percent of all water is, of course, split up among the world’s oceans.
Shaving cream. You have that pan you killed by leaving it on too long and you cannot get the congealed junk out of, even with brushes, soaps, and scrapers? Put shaving cream on it. Rub around until it is all coated. Leave for 15 minutes. Wash off. Junk leaves with the cream.
Got a smelly rug? Take one-half cup of water, half a handful of bay leaves, a cup of baking powder and blend for a couple of minutes. Let the mixture dry and then crumble it up. Sprinkle the result all over the offending rug. Wait two hours. Vacuum the powder mix up. Voila!
