LITTLE GEMS

The dinner bell is ringing in celebration because the annual pork chop dinner is again to be held at the Walworth County Fairgrounds location.
Take a night off from cooking and let someone else make dinner on Wednesday, June 22nd, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Each dinner includes two boneless pork chops, a baked potato, butter, sour cream, rye bread, coleslaw, and applesauce. Meals will be served by drive-thru only, but patrons are welcome to park and enjoy the meals at any of the picnic tables located throughout the fairgrounds. Ticket prices are $15 in advance or $20 at the gate. All proceeds will benefit the new North Hall Park at the Walworth County Fairgrounds.  This event has been enormously popular as the quality and quantity of the goods cooked and delivered is amazing.

After two years of planning, starting back in 2020, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline will be changing its name to the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
They will be operating on a brand-new system, changing their emergency phone number to 988. 988 will accept calls, texts, and online chats from anyone who needs support for a suicidal, mental health, and/or substance abuse crisis. People can also contact 988 if they are concerned about someone in crisis to get updates or progress reports. The calls, texts, and chats will be answered by counselors connected to the Wisconsin Lifeline. The counselors are trained to listen and support callers through their distress while focusing on de-escalation and coping skills. They will help reduce the stress of anyone’s challenge calling in, provide emotional support and connect callers with local resources. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services received $171,701 to help develop and implement the 988 system. As of July 16th, the 988 system will be live, along with the current phone number if one calling in chooses to call it instead of the 988 emergency number.  That number is 800-273-8255.
