You think you understand something about ATM machines?
Most people have no real clue unless they get to participate in the failure of one of the machines.  When ATM’s fail, some strange things automatically happen.  ATMs that fail will, most generally, turn themselves off, but that is not always true when it comes to all the systems that make up the interior electronic cooperation that makes the dispensing of cash accurately, timely, and generally without error, possible.

In Lake Geneva, one such ATM, a machine that is part of the bank’s outside operation, took the customer’s money, but then issued a receipt that said: “We aren’t able to give cash right now.”  For one thing, they are not ‘giving’ anything, they are supposed to be transferring it.  There is no way to complain to the owner of the ATM machine.  The bank where the machine is located said they could not give back the money, the credit card issuing bank or company would have to process the complaint and return the cash.

The banking laws allow credit card issuers to take up to 90 days!  This transaction took just over 48 hours to have the money returned, and then it was returned by getting rid of the money disappearing from the account and then reappearing without any notation as the event had never happened.  Amazing.

The newer ATMs in town, like those at Kwik Trip (which the GSR staff refers to as ‘Casino’ ATMs), have a limit of $200 on any one day.  Those new ATMs are not nice and well below the quality, the GSR has come to expect from Kwik Trip.  The old PNC ATMs and the new ones replaced were great.  Go figure.
