LITTLE GEMS

There’s another secret committee that’s been thrown together.
They have a pretty neat sign on a post that was placed outside the room they met in at Harbor Shores last Wednesday.  They are members of the ‘private’ parking committee, organized by ‘private’ citizens.  They’re stated agenda was all about how they would help the city make more money from parking, which was a shock, since, sitting around the table with one guy standing at an erasable board writing incomprehensible stuff were all business owners or operators of local downtown businesses.

The Business Improvement District, chaired by Speedo Condos, usually is the organization most involved in working with the city to accommodate such thorny issues as paid parking.  There’s also an ad hoc parking committee organized and meeting at the behest of the city’s Mayor Mayor. The Geneva Shore Report staff heard about this new parking meeting, so rushed, forthwith, to get to Harbor Shores and cover it.  Upon entry, the GSR reporting staff was told that they could not attend because the meeting was private.   The appeal to stay by those reporters of the GSR staff, that the GSR might actually be able to help put forth any new ideas of the group, was denied.

Being investigative reporters of some experience now, the new ‘secret’ and private committee, as they term their loosely held together organization, bring forth an unspoken, but not unwritten, question.  What are those people really meeting about and what are they truly up to?  Sitting in the newsroom and writing this story the reporting staff has to wonder if that kind of question, and potential answers to it that might be uncovered, is how the secret members of this committee really wanted to leave things?
