LITTLE GEMS

Brush pick-up has begun.
Brush will be picked up on Mondays, starting March 28th, and running through May 27th. With spring here, everyone should be ready to clean and spruce up yards and outdoor areas. The City of Lake Geneva is an advocate of outdoor living and the beautification of all properties in the city. The city wants to help in the process by offering free brush pick-up every spring and fall. Of course, there are some guidelines to follow.

In order to allow for quick and efficient pickup and accommodate the chipper truck, items must be placed neatly and may not be more than six feet in length and no more than six inches in diameter. Leaves and tree branches must be in separate piles, with no foreign objects like garbage, dirt, sod, or grass clippings inside them. If the piles are extremely large and messy and take over five minutes to pick up, the city has the right to charge for the service. If residents have a lot of clean-up and are concerned about being charged then the city has a brush and debris drop-off location that is accessible twenty-four hours per day, seven days a week for free. To check on the locations for pick-up week, and find more information, go to cityoflakegeneva.com. Happy clean-up and happy spring.

The alleys within downtown Lake Geneva are on a list of street improvements to be done this spring and summer, but will it be soon enough?
The subject of the trash in the alleys, weeds, repairs needed, and a total lack of any landscaping has been brought up by many residents and to many committees throughout recent years. As of now, the state of Lake Geneva’s alleys doesn’t leave a very good impression, with respect to what the City of Lake Geneva has to offer visitors and residents alike. There is also a very important safety issue to be concerned about, with vision-blocking debris and plant growth all over the place. When visitors utilize these alleys, they are typically greeted with trash, graffiti, potholes, and worse. There is no greenery, color, or anything pleasing to make anyone feel warm or welcomed (although signs to pay for parking abound). The alleys and lots could use a good spring cleaning and beautification, as well as immediate repair. Many comments have been brought forward at city meetings yet resident and property owner complaints have gone nowhere.
