LITTLE GEMS
No Mow May is for the bees and early pollinators.
The initiative urges homeowners not to mow in May to provide nectar and pollen for the bees and butterflies. Some studies have shown this conservation initiative works best when not taken literally. Instead of not mowing at all in May, some say a Slow Mow approach, setting your mower at a higher setting and reducing the frequency of mowing, may be better. This prevents lawns from turning into unkempt brush and protects habitat, and encourages native plants. However, you approach the task of lawn care, keep the bees in mind and remember that dandelions and white clover have a purpose, and flowers are welcoming to people and bugs alike.
In the next few weeks, Alliant Energy will be busy in Lake Geneva.
Alliant will be making much-needed system upgrades to improve reliability and safety. There will be utility flags placed in areas where work will be done; do not remove them, as that will only slow things down. Once the work is complete crews will restore all affected areas with soil, seed, and landscaping.
Residents will be kept in the loop as the work is being done. Any questions regarding the electrical work, call Alliant Energy at 1-800-255-4268.
