LITTLE GEMS

The flea market season is upon us.
The first of the 2025 Antique Flea Markets held at the Walworth County Fairgrounds was on May 18th. The Elkhorn Antique Flea Market, one of the largest flea markets in the Midwest, began in 1982. A set of collectors and antique dealers saw potential in a perfect setting at the Walworth County Fairgrounds for the start of something big. In the first year of the market, Knapp, an antiquarian with connections to other antique dealers, brought 15 to 20 vendors to the fairgrounds, using just a small amount of space near the north gate and North Hall.

Each year, the market grew larger and larger and attracted more shoppers, some of whom would drive hours to be at the gates in the early morning. Today, the show takes over the entire fairgrounds, a sprawling 99-acre site. The market is on four dates, between May and September, taking over the enormous Walworth County Fairgrounds in Elkhorn. There are also plenty of food vendors to choose from, as attendees wander around the rest of the flea market. Vendors offer everything from coffee to sweets, snacks, and sandwiches. The following shows are June 29th, August 10th, and September 28th. Admission is $5.

A unique Aspen-style mansion in Lake Geneva is on the market for $4.25 million, offering buyers an opportunity to own 10 acres of private woodland just minutes from the lake.
Opportunities like this don’t come along very often. The 7,200-square-foot home at W4469 S. Lakeshore Dr., Lake Geneva features 4 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms, and 3 half bathrooms, blending contemporary design with cabin aesthetics. It feels like a cabin in the woods with all the amenities of the lake and city living. While not directly on Geneva Lake, the property still has water access with a saltwater pool. The house also features multiple deck areas for outdoor living. The recently renovated kitchen includes luxury touches like heated floors and remote-controlled cabinets and blinds, adding to the home’s appeal for potential buyers seeking both comfort and seclusion. Properties with 10 acres of land are rare in the Lake Geneva area. The property offers a woodland oasis effect when the leaves on the trees are fully grown, providing a natural privacy screen uncommon in lakefront properties.

Currently, this $4.25 million mansion stands as the most expensive listing in Lake Geneva.  This is not an advertisement as the GSR does not advertise real estate for sale.  The price tag on this chunk of land almost certainly assures that it will be purchased by strangers to the area, which is either good or bad news. Take your pick.
