LITTLE GEMS

The first time tourism has gone down since the pandemic struck Lake Geneva.
All reports coming in about occupancy are down, as the winter comes bearing down on the area, but then, as Wisconsin didn’t follow the example of Illinois during the pandemic, and shut down, button down, distance, and mask, the resulting flux of tourists coming up from Chicago was huge.  The retreat of this main body of part-time visitors is now being felt.

Tourism will remain up, probably permanently, simply because so many Northern Illinois people ‘found’ Lake Genea for the first time, but the huge swell that carried the area to record populations is over.  The shops have, by and large, according to their own reports, recorded record revenue through sales.  The increased parking fee structure didn’t seem to slow things down, but then the giant influx ended. What will the winter be like for Lake Geneva, particularly for Lake Geneva businesses?

That remains a big unknown, as the coming winter is about to begin.
