Little Gems

The BP station on Pellar Road and Main Street is about to change.
That’s the station on Highway 50 just west of the Walgreen’s. The Lake Geneva City Council voted unanimously on the general development plan to raze and rebuild the gas station, convenience store, including Subway, and its car wash. The station is expected to be larger, with a better layout for efficient service. The work is set to begin soon.

The Holiday Season is here.
The window display competition forms must be completed and are due on November 6th, and then decorating can begin. The downtown businesses involved in the window display have until November 12th to finish and must follow any classic Christmas movie, story, and music theme. The judging begins the very next day and the “Holiday Open House” and “Jingle and Mingle” events are incorporated into the holiday celebration. Check out the BID’s Facebook page “Streets of Lake Geneva” for all the upcoming holiday events.

An upset homeowner on Water Street insists a new curb be removed.
The curb was just put in along a new sidewalk. Tom Earle responded to the issue, stating that the engineer is working on that curb issue and will be replacing the curb that was built on the inside of the sidewalk instead of along the roadside. Earle allegedly added that the inspector for the engineer office spoke with the home owner before the job was completed so everyone was aware of what was being done. The idea behind the new sidewalk and curb is for handicap accessibility and safety which would make the ‘landing area’ understandable, but the curb, not so much. The homeowner met with public works Tom Earle and a complete redo is now set to happen immediately. Curb, sidewalk and regrading, are expected to start this week. No, Tom Earle has not volunteered to pay for this obvious mistake. Taxpayers get that bill.

The Lake Geneva Business Improvement District (BID) is on the search for this year’s Christmas Tree for the Brunk Pavilion.
The BID is asking residents to nominate or donate a tree, preferably a Norway spruce or Douglas fir, that’s at least 20 feet tall and within 20 miles of Lake Geneva. The hope to have the tree picked out by November 16th. It will then be dug up and moved to Flat Iron Park at no cost to the owner. The tree owner will then also have the option to flip the switch at the tree lighting on December 4th.
