LITTLE GEMS
The Lake Geneva Lagoon has a lot going on.
Currently, the dam repair is nearing completion as the concrete is curing and soon the dam will be operational. The sea wall replacement has been approved to go out for bids. Both the smooth concrete wall and the cement block wall will be out for bid to give the city officials more options. Dredging bids are on hold at the moment as the committee tries to determine if piers should or should not go in the lagoon. If it is decided to not put piers in the lagoon does not need to be dredged as frequently and can be postponed at this time. The piers, harbor, and lakefront committee want to look at what could be done for the displaced lagoon slip renters and possibly the many that are on the city’s waitlist for a slip.
The committee invited Summerset Marine Construction to give a presentation on an open-water pier. Summerset is not new to the docking and pier world as it was founded in 1990, operates right here in Wisconsin, and has grown substantially over the years. Summerset has created and installed many piers near the area including a substantial pier system at Lake Lawn Lodge in Delavan. Metal pilings are used with composite decking that requires minor maintenance and does not need to be removed for the winter and reinstalled in the spring, saving the pier owner a substantial amount of money. Summerset believes the best location for a new open water pier would be along Library Park near the west end pier.
The pier system would accommodate the displaced boat slip renters in the lagoon and a good amount of those on the current waiting list. This new pier system could potentially accommodate up to eighty slip renters bringing in a good amount of revenue for the city. Of course, this has a sizeable price tag that would need to be paid before any revenue was generated but with low maintenance cost, the project could pay for itself in a fairly short time. The committee received the information with mostly favorable attitudes.
No decisions were made at the piers, harbor, and lakefront meeting but it looks like the discussion will continue.
