LITTLE GEMS
The GSR staff tries to help, but there’s no helping some businesses.
Joani’s Diner over there on Wells across from MacDonalds is a case in point. The GSR has written several times that it is near self-executionary to put up campaign signs in front of your business, no matter what the business or the political feelings and positions of the people who own and run it. Joani’s put up Trump signs, probably because he needs the help so bad, but who knows. Why no campaign signs? Because the current political situation is so polarized. People are simply hating one another in droves on both sides. One side is nearly half the population and the other is a bit larger.
Why alienate nearly half the population if it can be helped? Joani’s will see a significant drop in business now and into the future because people will react now and then later on, long after the election is over. It doesn’t matter to the staff of the GSR because the paper and its employees are already banned from going there, not by the GSR publisher but by Joani herself. That doesn’t mean that the paper or anybody working to keep it going doesn’t care. Lake Geneva does not need to lose this neat little throwback diner to fail, but the ownership might just consider having a bit more on the ball.
