LITTLE GEMS

Trick or Treating in Lake Geneva is this coming Sunday, October 27th.
Halloween is a controversial discussion every year with city officials, some want it on Halloween and others want to choose the most convenient daytime possible. This year and into future years convenience wins with an official verbiage change to the city ordinance. So the Sunday before Halloween October 27th from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Trick or Treating will happen around the city. The Lake City Social Restaurant will also join in the Sunday fun day with its Trunk or Treat event.

The restaurant parking lot will be transformed into a spooky good time. Halloween treats will be handed out at every station, each themed something different but all themed something Halloween. The big tent in the middle will have great stuff for the adults and the kids with some local performances and entertainment. Make sure to include the Lake City Social Trunk or Treat one of your stops. The lot opens at noon and stays open until 6 p.m. Happy Halloween.

It’s going to be winter weather time before we know it.
We have already had our first frost of the season as temps declined for a few days early last week. Fall has been absolutely beautiful with great temps, beautiful colors, and comfy attire. Wisconsinites can hold off on grabbing their snow boots for a little longer as it looks to be a rather mild and slightly wet fall, a weather pattern that could continue through winter. The whole state has equal chances of precipitation this fall. Equal chances mean that there is an unlikelihood of the weather going in a specific direction, as no direction is being favored.

The northern part of the Midwest, with parts of Illinois and Iowa, is forecast to deal with below-normal percentages of precipitation. As has been true in every year since 1792, the newest edition of the Old Farmer’s Almanac is out, as well as the Almanac’s much-anticipated, traditionally 80 percent–accurate weather forecasts. So, here’s the good news, hopefully anyway, this winter isn’t looking too crazy. But the almanac is “red-flagging” one specific set of a few weekends as having a “very active storm track” that could bring us a lot of snow, ice, and/or sleet and really strong winds. They want you to watch out for January 20th-23rd & January 24th-27th. It’s a hot minute away so they don’t know the exact track of the storm yet. But they do know it will impact the eastern half of the country, and there’s no guess on how much snow it could produce. It’s quite a bit later than Wisconsin’s big snow earlier this year.

While this late January/early February system looks to be the snowstorm of the season, for the winter in general, the almanac does predict “above-average precipitation” for the Midwest (which could include rain, not just snow). But on the whole, the forecast for winter 2025 is: wet and cold. A majority of the state does look to have above-normal chances for precipitation this winter, with a 40%-50% probability. It will be interesting to see if the Almanac’s predictions ring true.
