LITTLE GEMS

The City of Lake Geneva heads into another winter, forged into an expanded version of what it once was before the pandemic.
The Pandemic changed everything, as far as almost every facet and feature of Lake Geneva is experiencing, that is.  Traffic is way up, including during the week.  Winter weekends were, and are again, going to be filled with cars and people, like never before in history.  Chicago found Lake Geneva during that Pandemic, and those who came here to get away from a more restrictive Illinois Pandemic policy fell in love…and now they are coming back.

Cully, the guy who owns the nursery in the Town of Linn, flies over the lake area all the time in his ultra-light aircraft, flying low and counting.  It’s his opinion, shared by the GSR witnessing on the ground below, that the population of people coming to Lake Geneva has gone up by thirty to fifty thousand per year since the Pandemic was first announced back in 2019.  There appears to be no lessening of attendance, as the summer of 2022 comes to an end and the winter weather becomes more evident all the time.

What will the future for Geneva Lake portend, as well as the communities who live around its waters?  That is impossible to predict at the present time, but everyone who has a stake in the lake or around it should begin to pay real attention.

96.1, the local Lake Geneva radio station, suddenly changes.
That station, for years, has been infamous for playing mostly bad music.  Now, at least on Saturdays, the station has Seventies Saturday.  What a difference, at least for anyone of age.  Music that actually has melody and lyrics that are understandable.

What a difference, given that 93.3, 95.7, 96.9, and 107.30 all semi or totally suck when it comes to music selection and play.  Maybe the younger set is happy with most of the junk on those other stations.  On Sunday mornings, of course, there’s still Mistress Nancy doing her right-wing ‘edge of QAnon’ show, but she’s so far off the outer edges of any rational foundation that it’s humorous to listen in, especially when her agent provocateur, Tyler August, is on there with her.

Tyler is the local U.S. representative for the district.  He has one thing that got him elected years back, and that thing hasn’t changed, and that’s his name: Tyler August. What a cool combination of words and sounds.   Still, it’s worth tuning in when the music takes over and is okay because 87.7 is too far away to get decent reception in the Geneva Lake area. 96.1 is better than it was. Maybe, somehow, management changed.  Who knows?

The first ever Lake Geneva Honky Tonk Fest and Craft Beer Tasting.
The downtown of Lake Geneva will be filled with music and fun. The goal is to transform the streets of Lake Geneva into a mini-Nashville. Lake Geneva’s Business Improvement District is adding a fun pre-fall event to the calendar on the weekend of September 16th, through the 18th. This is a ticketed event and buying a ticket to Saturday’s main event will get you in on Sunday for free. Ticket holders will enjoy the all-inclusive beer sampling on Saturday and entrance to Sunday family fun day in seminary Park for family-friendly fun.

An LG Honky Tonk Craft Beer designated driver ticket is $10.00. An LG Honky Tonk Craft Beer Tasting ticket is $49, and an LG Honky Tonk Sunday Funday ticket is $15. Seminary Park is the main location for this event, however, all businesses in the downtown area are encouraged to participate and add some of their own honky tonk fun. ‘Ho down’ around town in your favorite southern duds with a partner and mosey around the town’s great shops and watering holes. Saturday’s events include unlimited beer sampling for three hours and live music from the “Bono Bros.” Sunday is Fun Day, with live music by “Zac Mathews” and “Hillbilly Rockstarz.”  There will be dancing, beer, food, bouncy houses, and inflatable bull riding. Get the tickets online now at www.streetsoflakegeneva.com.
