LIVING HERE

With spring clean-up going on Big Foot State Park is also getting ready for the warm season.
Along with the wonder of spring and summer come the penetrating sunshine, the great warmth, which translates into the appearance of thousands of visitors and residents coming out of homes to the outdoors.  Once more, everyone local needs to be ready.  The parks, in particular, need to be properly prepared.  Join the park for Volunteer Clean Up Day at Big Foot Beach, extending on into the state park.

This Saturday, April 15th, from 10 a.m. through 12 p.m., volunteers will pitch in and get the necessary preparatory work done at that park area.  The amount of work to be done is directly dependent on the number of volunteers who show up, and, of course, the weather conditions, because volunteers will and will be picking up branches, performing campground clean up, repainting picnic tables, and more. Volunteering is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and enjoy time working together with friends and family. The event is coordinated by the Friends of Big Foot Beach State Park and the Geneva Lakes YMCA Teen Leaders Club. For more information check this all out on Facebook and RSVP or message with any questions.

Progress is being made on the former Perkins site.
The former Perkins on the corner of Geneva Street and Borg Road has been demolished and razed.   The Common Council approved a conditional use permit in August for the building to be razed and replaced with a new structure that will house a Qdoba and Noodles and Company. Both restaurants will have drive-through windows, indoor seating, and space for potential outdoor patio seating. A few concerns were presented by the city planner starting with the number of parking spaces planned for the site. A minimum of 41 spaces are required to accommodate the 122-seating capacity of the two restaurants and there are exactly 41 spaces in the plans.

As of now only one of the two restaurants has plans for outdoor seating. If that restaurant, which was not named, decides to offer patio seating, they will have to reduce the number of seats available inside to stay under the 122-seating capacity. The proposed landscaping for the site will be a significant improvement over the current conditions. The site will also have a fence on the south/southeastern edge of the site to prevent customers from walking into the drive-through lane. There has been a lot of development activity just in that area of the city in the last few years and we look forward to all that is coming.
