LIVING HERE
Supplies are finally coming in and work can be done around the City of Lake Geneva.
The street department has been waiting on white and yellow paint so they could take care of repainting the lines and curbs around town. The supply shortage is affecting everyone in some way. At the monthly police and fire commission meetings, the representatives discuss how purchasing and building emergency vehicles has been extended to two or three years out after ordering. This delay is supposedly because parts are getting stuck in ports while trying to get into the United States. Then there’s also the issue of being short drivers once the products do make it across the border or out of port and into the states. Add on shipping delays and it could be months before a department can see its product. The same issue has become true for home furniture, as anything not on the floor or in the warehouse is taking up to eight months to get.
This may be the worst supply chain shortage in fifty years and is not expected to improve in the next year. With that being said, everyone needs to be patient and remember to appreciate what we do have. The street department has received all its supplies so the painting has begun. Please be careful as you drive around town because employees from the street department will be out in the intersections repainting the lines and we want everyone to have a safe summer.
The Best of Lake Geneva is all about the people and businesses native to Lake Geneva.
Between July 13th and August 3rd, the community was encouraged to nominate favorite businesses in Lake Geneva. Categories included auto services, beauty salons, health & wellness, home & garden, parks & recreation, pet care, professional services, retail, and restaurant. The five businesses with the most nominations in each category will move on to the final voting round. Nominees are in, and soon the voting will begin. Voting will be open on August 24th and will stay open through September 14th. The Best of Lake Geneva winners will be announced on October 26th. For more information on this fun, popularity contest go to the Streets of Lake Geneva Facebook page.
The City of Lake Geneva has a new website, apparently designed by trolls.
The new website for the city is simply a mess. In fact, for the last twenty-four hours, before this issue of the Geneva Shore Report goes to print, the site has been entirely down. Prior to that, it had items like a city council meeting scheduled to occur at 12:01 a.m.! Then there were the meetings published with no agendas and in the wrong places.
What is going on? How many thousands of dollars were paid to come up with a new and better site? A lot of thousands but it’s not even really about the money.
Because this site was down during the city’s Meeting of the Whole on Monday night, there was no transmission. That’s right, nobody failing to attend got to see it. This kind of incompetence, deliberate or by accident is nearly inexcusable in this day and age. The new template for the site should have been worked on until complete and operational before being substituted for the old site. Obviously, that was not done. Let’s see how long it takes the city to harness this rising monster and send Puff the Magic Dragon back into its cave.
