LIVING HERE
Winter weather came in strong this season.
Local lakes have frozen earlier than normal, and temperatures have been colder than in previous years. Icy roads and accidents from severe weather have also started early. For safe winter driving, slow down significantly, increase following distance (5-8 seconds), accelerate/brake/brake gently, and avoid sudden movements; prepare your car with good tires, wipers, and fluids, and pack an emergency kit with essentials like blankets, water, and a flashlight, while staying aware of black ice and avoiding snowplows.
Reduce speed and increase following distance (5-8 seconds) as stopping distances are much longer. Accelerate, brake, and steer slowly and smoothly to maintain traction. Apply steady, firm pressure to the brakes; ease off the accelerator if skidding. If you slide, turn the wheel in the direction of the skid. Never use it on slick roads. Maintain momentum but avoid spinning wheels; get a running start if possible. Roads can be slick even if they look wet; bridges and overpasses freeze first. Stay back (at least 200 feet), don’t pass, and don’t stop right behind them. Ensure your tires have good tread and proper air pressure.
Clear all snow/ice from windows, lights, and the roof; use the defroster and good wipers. Use winter-grade washer fluid, and check antifreeze. Check battery health and ensure all lights work. Also, make sure to keep an emergency kit containing blankets, warm clothes, food, water, a flashlight, a first-aid kit, jumper cables, a shovel, sand/cat litter for traction, and a phone charger.
Join the Lake Geneva Public Library on Saturday, December 27th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for vision board making.
The purpose of a vision board is to serve as a motivational collage of images, words, and symbols representing your goals, dreams, and aspirations, helping you clarify intentions, boost motivation, and maintain focus on achieving desired outcomes, whether for career, wellness, or personal growth. It’s a powerful visualization tool that turns abstract desires into tangible, visible reminders, keeping them top-of-mind to encourage action and positive thinking. You create a collage using pictures, quotes, and affirmations that represent your desired future (e.g., dream job, travel, healthy lifestyle).
Seeing this board regularly reinforces your goals, helps you notice opportunities, and inspires you to take the necessary actions, making it a practical tool for self-awareness and goal attainment. Your board at the library will be personalized and filled with pictures of your plans and goals, serving as a daily reminder to help you stay on track. We will provide the boards, the glue, and the printer.
