Mike Slavney came to the rescue of the public at last Monday’s plan commission meeting.
Slavney saw that the agenda was amended to add a discussion about the 3rd draft of the comprehensive plan, which was supposed to be on the original

agenda but somehow hadn’t gotten added on. Once the error was spotted the agenda was quickly amended. Mr. Slavney opened a question and answer session with the plan commission members present. Slavney attended the recent plan workshops and meetings with the public discussing the new comprehensive plan.  He apparently really took note of what the public and residents wanted to address in the new plan and their valid concerns.

His first issue was about the fact that the public does not want Wrigley Drive blocked off and turned into a park. He told the committee they should address this so they can change the way that issue is worded in the current draft of the comprehensive plan and everyone agreed. It was then (strangely) decided to change the wording to allow a study to be done to see if it’s feasible to close off Wrigley if the decision is made at a later time.  One hand appeared to give while then one appeared to take away. Slavney also spoke about how the public doesn’t want any more big box stores in town. The committee talked about the type of stores that would be most beneficial for Lake Geneva. One option would be to limit the size of the stores that might build or come into town. The next important topic was how to keep the lake clean and safe. Slavney addressed how very important this topic is for the public and residents of the surrounding lake area. The “clean boat clean lake program” is listed in the new comprehensive plan and discussions will continue as to what else to incorporate.
