LIVING HERE

A year ago, this month, the city and its residents were celebrating the installation of new AV equipment; however, it had a long-term effect on the city government’s Channel 25. The majority of council members were impressed with the proposal from Smart Spaces and felt the technology fit their needs, and voted to approve Smart Spaces contract. Except no one considered the effect the new equipment would have on cable Channel 25, which is how Lake Geneva City meetings are televised.

The public soon complained and insisted that the issue be resolved. However, the improvements made in the video streaming audio and visual have been significant. The city administration, along with city officials, put forth an effort and approved the extra spending to get the equipment needed in order to televise meetings once again. Lake Geneva sat and waited for the back-ordered equipment needed to arrive, installation, and financial hurdles with Spectrum.

At one point, the channel’s video was up and running, but there was no audio. Spectrum was the main reason that it has taken a year to get the issues resolved. Finally, a year later, the residents can watch the city meetings comfortably and easily on their couch on Channel 25.  One truly wonders about the effectiveness of modern technology, and now the advent of truly stupid artificial intelligence.

The astronomical team at the Keck Observatory on Maui (Hawaii) used A.I. to have its giant scope search through the heavens. The team instructed the scope to search for nothing, and A.I. could not comprehend that the team instructed it search the universe for something unknown, and A.I. could not comprehend that either.  What’s coming isn’t necessarily better.
