LIVING HERE

The Village of Walworth is considering the addition of a Narcan dispenser to help save the lives of addicts who’ve overdosed.
This would be the first one among all the local lake communities. A Narcan dispenser, called a NapoxBox, could potentially be installed in the village hall entry in Walworth. This would make the Narcan spray would be in CPR masks and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Narcan is a nasal spray solution that people can be given to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and potentially save lives. This nasal solution can be used for different types of overdoses, including prescription and street opioids.

Unfortunately, Walworth County has seen a significant increase in drug-related overdoses and is looking for any way possible to bring that number down. Just last month the Walworth County Public Health Department issued a public health alert, trying to make the public more aware of the severity of drug abuse and overdoses. The Village of Walworth is hoping that, by giving access to Narcan 24 hours a day, the town will become part of the solution to saving more lives.

The Lake Geneva traffic congestion issue is growing at an exponential rate.
Friday, by ten a.m. in the morning, the earliest vestige of the growing and looming mass of vehicles and people who were all set to kick the ice sculpting competition off began showing up.  At that early an hour the cars and trucks were backed up from the intersection of Main and Center Street all the way up and over the top of Catholic Hill to the east.  As the weekend rolled by the vehicular traffic was a jammed mess, clogging up intersections all around the downtown area, and the people on foot populated almost all sidewalk space, spreading out to walk and stand in the roadways without respect for the rules of the road.  This was only Winterfest.

Next summer is coming for all of us who live in and around Lake Geneva.  Cars were parking as far away as ten blocks from the downtown area, filling up normally quiet neighborhoods.  There can be no enforcement that might clear some of the tangles of cars and people, not unless the city wants to have maybe one police officer on each corner of every intersection in the downtown area.  And even if there were officers posted in such places how might they be supposed to handle a couple of hundred people crossing illegally, or ten or twelve cars totally blocking an arterial intersection?

Here it comes.
There appears to be little likelihood that this coming primary election, occurring on the 15th of February, is going to cause a runoff, with Charlene Klein and Todd Krause being the candidates who will go head-to-head in April.  Dennis Loeser, the third contender doesn’t seem to be a contender at all, particularly because of the fact that both Klein and Krause have quite a local following and name recognition. The Geneva Shore Report ran a story about Todd Krauser and the material was a little off.  Tom has been a resident of Lake Geneva since 1965 and has not one blemish on his record, either working in private industry (he owns a flooring company) or in public service.   What the coming election, following the rather performa primary, will bring is anybody’s guess at this point.  It is nice to see two quality people vying for the position of mayor, however.
