Improvements at the lake.
The piers are an issue they and continue to cost the city money every year for maintenance and repairs. With inflation adding to the cost of materials, increased repairs every year, and future anticipated expenses, the city council approved the increase of the seasonal rates on kayak, buoy, and slip rates. The rates for 2023 will be anywhere from 3% to 9% higher depending on what is rented and if renter is a resident or not. One of the big expenses at the lake this year has a lot do with mother nature. High winds have caused the waters to hit piers repeatedly causing upper surface planks to either be lost or become unrepairable.

This is a big cost and seems to get bigger every year. The prevention of this damage is to be solved by the raising of the piers, which has been an ongoing discussion and is being implemented one pier at a time. This year the decking of the gas pier has to be done and why not raise the pier at the same time? That is exactly what the harbormaster and the city want to do, which would be a bit of a savings compared to doing both improvements separately. The decking is estimated to cost $60,000.00 and the raising is estimated at $23,900.00.  Both of these projects will be paid for out of the lakefront reserve fund.

The City of Lake Geneva Police Officers stopped a vehicle pursued by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department.
Saturday morning, around 11:10 a.m. Walworth County Deputies were patrolling I-43 southbound near Bowers Road when they noticed a silver vehicle traveling well under the 70-mph speed limit. Officials said the driver was seated low in his seat and was reaching over the front area of the vehicle. The vehicle began swerving within its lane and impeded traffic by blocking traffic. The deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly refused to pull over and merged onto Highway 12 westbound and increased his speed to 108 mph. Officials said the man ran a stop sign at Highway 12 and North Wisconsin Street in Elkhorn, turned left into a ditch, then continued southbound on North Wisconsin Street. He then merged onto Highway 12 eastbound and allegedly reached speeds up to 120 mph.

Police in Lake Geneva used spike strips to try and slow the vehicle down. The vehicle hit one set of strips but continued eastbound at 100 mph. Officials said chunks of the front driver’s side tire were flying in the air. Deputies stopped the man along Highway 12 north of Highway U and arrested him without further incident. He faces charges of fleeing and eluding an officer. Great job to the Lake Geneva officers and all those involved with stopping the potentially impaired driver.
