The roads of downtown Lake Geneva.
The State and County have promised to come through downtown Lake Geneva and remake the whole area surrounding Highway 50’s course through the city center. That’s coming in three to four years and is going to be controversial as all get out. Before that remake and redo take place, the one that will replace the foundations and overlay of Main Street and the roads a block deep on each side of the other connecting streets, the place needs help.
Because that’s coming the city has taken a wait-and-see attitude about fixing the fragmenting and decay of the downtown roads that’s happening in real time right now. There’s a photo in this issue of the ‘cratering’ of the surface asphalt that’s beginning to show up all over the downtown area. That cratering cannot be fixed with an overlay of tar, the fix that’s used to fill cracks, so the extreme temperature differentials of Wisconsin don’t destroy the surfaces before their time. Their time, however, is right now.
The Australians are coming!
