LIVING HERE
Lake Geneva’s downtown traffic signal mess runs from one end of Main Street to the other.
The signals are not working according to how they were set up, following the significantly larger expense of installing supposedly ‘automatic’ lights and arrows. At Cook Street and Main, the signal allowing for the green on the Cook and Wrigley directions is way too long. Somehow, the setting on this signal got screwed up and nobody has fixed it. Traffic is backing up into the intersection of Broad and Main, and the summer is barely upon us. The yellow warning part of the signal, on the signal light facing to the east on Main, is way too short, running less than two seconds! The signal at Main and Broad has turn signals that sometimes work according to the plan (the arrow comes on when there are two or more vehicles waiting to turn) and then at others do not work at all. Then there is the signal down at Walgreens at Main and Edwards. It’s just screwed up from beginning to end when it’s working at all.
This town is about to become a nightmare for traffic in only a few weeks, if not sooner. The weekends are going to be one dithering barely-moving mess. And it is all preventable, at least the major parts of it. Where is management? Where is the city leadership? The city paid hundreds of thousands to modify these signals to allow much more efficient streaming of traffic but now will not contact the company that sold them to get back and fix the adjustments. The street department is either uncaring or incompetent when it comes to doing something about this problem.
The very popular Mars Resort is a classic supper club on the shores of Lake Como.
Mars is a favorite of locals and visitors, and the majority are repeat customers. Patrons rave about the wonderful service, great atmosphere, and delicious food and drink. With this kind of reputation, the owners of Mars can’t go wrong with the opening of another lakeside restaurant.
Yes, you read that right; the owners of Mars are opening another restaurant in the French Country Inn. This location has had a few different attempts at opening a restaurant always with an upscale attitude, high prices, and limited hours, not exactly what people are looking for and unfortunately, none lasted long. The plan this time around is to accommodate everyone with a fresh, relaxed, and affordable place that people want to come to over and over again. Rumor has it the name will be ‘The Getaway’ and will have similar price points as Mars itself.
The menu will be a little different from Italian and American and will include local favorites. The location is on the south shore of Lake Como inside the French Country Inn hotel area, so it goes without saying it includes fabulous views and a great outdoor area. The plan is to open soon, potentially by the end of June.
