LIVING HERE

Gary Con, as in “Gary Gygax.”
Its back at Grand Geneva. Join Gary’s children, friends, and fellow game enthusiasts as they celebrate a life well-played. Gary Con is an annual role-playing convention celebrating the life of Dungeon & Dragons creator Gary Gygax which is being held March 23rd to 26th. Gary is the Father of role-playing games so there is no better way to celebrate his life than by doing what he loved. This year is the first official cosplay contest with a theme of D&D of any sort, Boot Hill inspired and Gamma World Inspired, all games loved by Gary. Included in the list of events is a charity auction held on Saturday afternoon, benefiting Children’s Wisconsin.

There will be many items to bid on while supporting young kids and their families. Attendees look forward to high adventures, shaking dice and making new friends while helping those in need with their generosity. Other events include an autograph booth, merchandise table, movie at Emagine theater, gaming, demonstrations and much more.

Judge Hank Sibbing for Judge… again!

Hank Sibbing for Judge Lake Geneva

Vote: Judge Hank Sibbing

This terrific family man, on the bench as Lake Geneva’s city attorney before becoming its favorite judge of all time for the next twenty-some-odd years, is up for re-election.  This man is dedicated to the principles of justice, fairness, civility, and judicial independence.  His courtroom is a place where all citizens can feel confident that they will be treated with fairness, respect, and a real shot at reality for whatever they might be in court for.  This man has trained to great legal clerks, and you can go into the municipal building and meet them yourself, who add a whole lot to the experience of watching or being a part of justice dispensed in such a great place as Lake Geneva.  Bachelor’s degree, Ph. D as well as a master’s degree in counseling, so he can better understand and accommodate the needy as well as those more financially well off.  This man is a gift to the city and the city needs to recognize that and make sure it keeps him for as long as he is ready and willing to serve.

Livingston, I presume…
The Geneva Shore Report continues to support this man for supervisor in Town of Linn, and the primary reason for that, other than the man’s educational credentials (master engineer), is that the reporters for the paper have been able to watch him work quietly away, not only in dispensing great judgment but also in helping others on the committee and even regular citizens better understand the complexities of the development going on in and around the town but also the social  and cultural issues the board is required to make decisions on. Jim Livingston served a full tour and is willing to go at it again.  The Town of Linn would be well served to give him another go at it.

What’s happening between Lake Geneva city council leadership and women?
Mr. Hedlund, president of that body, and up for re-election in April, has twice now used harsh expletives in public against two different women, in a matter of days.  He said to one woman, while she was having dinner at the Pub in downtown Lake Geneva, with witnesses overhearing, “F…you!”  He called another woman, a member of his own city council the five letter “B” word.  Again, he did this with witnesses present, who have come to reporters of the GSR with their stories.

How is the council to maintain any sense of decorum if their leader is out in the community and even inside the council chambers is treating women this way?  Mayor Mayor has no power over such a person in such a position, whatsoever.  It’s out of the scope of the city attorney, as it’s not illegal to use such language in speaking to other people, even if you are professionally involved with them.  But the enormity of what it reveals about the man doing it…well, the result should be evident in the coming election.

Spring is here and the Riviera is getting ready.
The businesses of the Riviera concourse are setting up shop for another wonderfully busy summer season. Soon the fountain will be uncovered, and the water will flow. The beach is also in for a lot of spring clean-up. The sand is being hauled in and groomed, the debris is being removed, piers are going to be in before you know it, and the lifeguard stands will be rearranged, adding a taller lifeguard tower to the landscape. The tower will help ensure safety at the beach, giving the lifeguards a better visual of the beach patrons as safety is always top priority. As the Riviera, the lake, and the city get ready, so do the people. Here’s to another prosperous and pleasant season.
