The Lake Geneva Lagoon Seawall (actually, the retaining wall for the exiting slip of water that the overflow of the lake pours into before going over the dam) needs repairs.
The project has been awarded to the lowest bidder. The three bids received on the seawall project came in March of 2021 and the proper one was chosen. The successful bidder is CK Contractors out of Union Grove Wisconsin with a contract price estimated at $48,413.50. The seawall repairs are long overdue not unlike several other lagoon improvements needed. The seawall work includes many aspects including common excavation, removal and installation of sidewalks, pipe underdrain, sediment control, erosion mat, drain and inline drain basins, lagoon seawall repairs, and restoration to all disturbed areas. A couple of years back the lagoon underwent a full assessment and discussion began regarding the lagoon and all the work needed. The unsafe and poorly maintained piers have been removed and redesigned and installation is on the table. The dam and the seawall were also a part of that discussion. The dam, however, is not owned by the city but the seawall on the south side of the lagoon from the bridge to the spillway is. Originally the plan was to do the seawall repairs at the same time as the dam repairs, but the dam work has been pushed back and the city felt the bid from CK Contractors was worth awarding. City officials felt there was a little more urgency to get the repairs done. The funding is already in the budget so if and when approval is made CK Contractors hopes to start and finish before October of 2024.
There’s a new “fest” coming to town.
The first Wisconsin Cheese Festival will kick off the summer festival season in Lake Geneva May 17-19. Here cheese lovers will congregate at the Lake Geneva House of Music for three days of food, music, and family fun. The event brings together cheese makers, artisans, farmers, and vendors to celebrate Wisconsin’s rich cheese-making heritage while sharing their passion with the public. The festival will pair a wide variety of cheese dishes with a gratifying selection of whiskey, wine, and craft beer. While wining and dining everyone can enjoy a variety of Americana, country, folk, and bluegrass music.
Activities will include cheese-themed contests, karaoke, cheese bingo, stein hoisting, and a mouthwatering variety of creative foods. The event features three days of live music on two outdoor stages and free indoor after-parties on Friday and Saturday nights. Everyone can purchase daily tickets or a weened pass. To purchase tickets to the event visit https://www.cheesefestwi.com. Sunday’s event, which is combined with the Geneva Outdoor Market, is free to the public.
