The outrage of the new real estate appraisals.
The new appraisals are going to be coming into business and homeowners and the local people who have to deal with this are not happy, or not going to be happy when they get these new numbers. One business owner actually went from a 619,000 value in 2022 to 1.5 million in 2023. Anyone can imagine the shock, anger, and even outrage when receiving a reappraisal of this magnitude.
Prices for real estate went up almost twenty percent in the Lake Geneva area according to the Board of Real Estate, but they didn’t go up hundreds of percent. It seems that the appraiser who did not talk to the owner or enter the establishment, merely drove by and noted that a redo of the place had been done since the last appraisal. He valued the redo at six hundred thousand even though the cost of redoing the place was under two hundred. Such is life in these ever-increasing price periods of all of our lives. Those that have the power want more and they have the power to get it.
Stand by for your own reappraisal bill. You can appeal and they might just give you ten percent off or a bit less, which is the norm. You are not going to win any arguments by saying your place or stuff is worthless. They simply don’t have to accept your word on any of that, although you at least get to talk to somebody about it.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is reminding drivers to prepare tires for the upcoming winter season.
Officials say that, by law, the State of Wisconsin requires all tires being driven on the road to have a minimum of at least 2/32 inches. Police say a good way to test if a tire meets that minimum tread is by conducting a penny test. To test a tire, take a penny and place it upside down between two ribs on the tire of the vehicle. Officers say the head of President Lincoln should not be showing and if it is, then that is a sign the tread depth on the tire is worn and the tire should be replaced.
During winter months you should also keep your tank at least half full if at all possible. It’s also a good time to replace worn windshield wipers and to make sure all fluids are full and ready to go for any snowstorm that may come through. Before driving, clear snow and ice from your vehicle’s windows, front and rear lights, hood, and roof.
