LIVING HERE

The language is changing around us, even around Geneva Lake.
When one needed to use a restroom ‘back in the day’ one said that a restroom was necessary. Today, the words “I have to pee” are totally accepted in replacing that old hoary phrase.  Back in those earlier days using the word ‘pee’ would have caused a bar of soap to be inserted into a child’s mouth.  Today, people all over say they are ‘on vacation’ or ‘in hospital,’ or even ‘at university’ when these events always were described using connecting words that no longer seem to apply.  That pronunciation comes directly from Europe, like the acceptance of Ennui, the French word for a mildly depressive state or the word spelled ‘harbour’ instead of harbor.  The times change quickly and easily but not so human beings or the social condition.

It’s the giving season and there are so many different ways to do so this time of year.
Harbor Shores has a Toys for Tots bin in the lobby, The Visitors Center is also collecting winter gear for those in need, the Lake Geneva Public Library has a Giving Tree, and of course the Lake Geneva Police Department has a bin in the lobby for Christmas for Kids. There is still time to give, and however and wherever you decide to do so, it is so worth it.

The Lake Geneva Police Department’s community outreach committee is hoping to collect more items for kids at Christmas which helps kids and families in need. You can help by providing one or more of the following: gift cards for groceries, gas, and necessities, games, books, socks, pajamas, gloves and hats, winter boots and shoes, household items that families may need, and food for holiday meal baskets.

For more information on how and what to give you can check out the Lake Geneva’s Police Department’s Facebook page.
