An upcoming free car seat safety event in Walworth County is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Lakeland School. Correctly using an appropriate child safety seat in the back seat reduces the risk of fatal injury by up to 71% for infants. Keep children rear-facing as long as possible until they reach the top weight or height limit of their seat. Harness straps must be at or below the child’s shoulders.
Once a child is ready, use a forward-facing seat with a harness and top tether once the rear-facing limit is outgrown. Keep children in this mode until they reach the maximum weight or height allowed by the seat. Use a belt-positioning booster seat when the forward-facing limit is exceeded. Continue to use it until the vehicle seat belt fits properly on its own.
Walworth County is offering free safety inspections and hands-on installation assistance from certified car seat technicians. Free replacement car seats may be provided for families who qualify financially.
