COLD AS THE DRIVEN SNOW
The art for this article is about the most appropriate art that could be found to allow readers, and maybe just those interested in looking and evaluating bits of directed and opinionated writing, to take in an artful internalization of the expression that has somehow come to overtake the world’s most successful culture, the world’s ever known. How did a living, breathing horror attitude and social conclusion of coldness make its way into the very heart of America and begin to play out as first living death and then real death of this formerly wondrous culture?
The current national leadership, using the expression ‘Make America Great Again,’ has hijacked a former sense of open generosity, peace-making, and love and turned it into one in which a massive percentage of the population has come to see things like generosity, compassion, and providing care for those less fortunate as indications of weakness. The current leader of this country once stood outside a square in Washington, D.C. and held up a bible to make some point. That he held the bible upside down was noted by reviewing the video.
That inadvertent mistake was not only a minor error of positioning in space, but it was also emblematic of how this leader has treated the New Testament in that revered book. Recently, he said in an interview that went viral nationally that he did not believe he would be going to heaven. Why might that be true?
Matthew, writing in the New Testament: “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what’s coming to you in this kingdom. It’s been ready for you since the world’s foundation. And here’s why: I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was homeless and you gave me a room, I was shivering and you gave me clothes, I was sick and you stopped to visit, I was in prison and you came to me.”
Those predictive words were written two thousand years ago. A few days ago, this leader refused to allow the 40 million people in America to receive food money through a governmental program to feed those who are hungry, mostly women and small children. This leader now consistently imprisons human beings across the country, men, women, and children, and deports them to foreign hellhole institutions in countries where they can neither be visited much less found. For those who may be sick, this leader has seen fit to allow them to not be able to afford medical insurance to receive care. This leader has quietly allowed concentration camps to be built to house those who are taken from the street to be imprisoned and ‘medicated’ to supposedly help them.
Matthew also wrote this about those doing or supporting such conduct: “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” The leader of America may well have made the most accurate prediction of his entire life, and that was about his own salvation. It’s hard to imagine that he could make more violations, as described by Matthew, than he already has. Possibly the murder, without true knowledge of violations or crimes brought against them (64 so far, from Venezuela), might be among the other things the ‘Upside Down Presidente’ might do to make sure that heaven will not be the repository for the forgiveness of such heinous acts of inhumanity. That many in America have grown ‘cold as the driven snow’ while following this strangely demented creature who only vaguely resembles a human being is enough to bring the remainder of humanity in the USA who truly believe and follow the rules and recommended conduct written in the New Testament to their knees.
The prayer for those supporters can only be one of forgiving them for what they have done, as their support enabled this leader to do what he has done, not only to the rest of us but to them as well. Maybe, the effectiveness of prayers for them notwithstanding, then they may only find out about what they did and took part in will be described to them by Saint Peter at the gate. Meanwhile, the leaders’ icy, cold-hearted, and cold-acting mate can remind all of us, in looking at her, that this new America needs rebuilding as badly as the White House will need to be rebuilt when he is gone. The New Testament won the November elections with Virginia, New Jersey, New York, and even the California proposition going overwhelmingly to those who believe and practice what Matthew was preaching and still applies to all of humanity. There is hope growing across the land for a return to a sort of prosperity where everyone can feel good about themselves again, no matter what the physical conditions surrounding everyone.
