Williams Bay Corn and Brat Fest; August 13th to the 15th.
The Lions Annual Corn and Brat Festival will be held this weekend inside the beautiful Edgewater Park in Williams Bay. Edgewater Park is wonderfully located on the shore of Geneva Lake and has a very convenient pavilion, making it easy to accommodate a weekend event. There will be corn, brats, burgers, hotdogs, beer, and wine coolers, and plenty of sweet treats. The fun begins Friday at 5 p.m. and runs until midnight, and then Saturday from 10 a.m. through midnight, with fireworks at dusk.  It wraps up on Sunday, from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m. The weekend will be filled with activities and entertainment. Friday, at 5 p.m., the Andrew Gelles Band will perform, followed by Rebel Grace at 8 p.m. Saturday, Katie Mack & The Moon will start off the night at 5 p.m., followed by fireworks at dusk. The fireworks will be synchronized to music live on 96.1, (if they’ve recovered from the ransom hack of last week). Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon there will be additional entertainment by Cole Brandt and the Big Al Wetzel Band. Great summer fun all weekend.

Lake Geneva’s Board of Parks Commission is working on the five-year update of the Park and Open Space Plan.
This is an ongoing plan that is set to be approved at the end of this year and will be in effect until 2026. The Park commissioners are passionate about green space and preserving it into the future for all to enjoy. Parks provide a sense of well-being, a place to get out and move, entertain the kids, walk the dogs, breathe fresh air, and so much more. This does not come without a cost or hard work. The Park Commission is updating the plan with all this in mind. Commissioners are urging the city to preserve as much of its remaining green space as it can because once it’s gone it’s gone. The Hillmoor property is one of those spaces and in some of the commissioners’ visions could be the central park of Lake Geneva. Park availability, and enough of it, is being considered as development continues to grow in Lake Geneva. The wants and needs of residents and visitors are important, as parks and green space are for all. The beautification of parks is a major focus, along with the quality of picnic areas, playground equipment, and other recreational amenities. The cost to do all that should be approved and done right.  That is not all included in the city’s budget currently, so aggressively pursuing potential funding sources is crucial. The next Board of Park Commissioners meets Tuesday, August 17th, at 6:30 p.m.

Speedo Condos, the owner of Lake Geneva’s best-located restaurant and chairman of the business improvement district, is angry.
The city hit the BID with the audit it had done for the year 2020.  The audit company, the company that one of Lake Geneva’s key financial officers worked for before joining the Lake Geneva team), indicated that the BID had too few people reviewing the finances. That shot did not go quietly across Speedo’s bow.  He is mad as hell at the insult of it, given that the current board under his leadership brought the BID back from an eighty-thousand-dollar deficit and on into the black this year while losing no essential services or projects (in fact, adding several more successfully).  The city writes checks from accounts that the BID board members have no access to.  There are no BID credit cards.  The city approves of all BID spending.  Where in all that process is there any opportunity for the need to exist of more people looking over the shoulders of those making the spending decisions? Speedo is correct to be angry.  He and Demetri, of Popeye’s fame, brought the BID back from death’s door and they deserve congratulations and thanks from the entire community, and the city needs a new auditing company, hopefully, one that is not ‘attached at the hip’ to any Lake Geneva city employees.
